Help with Color

I am a soldier currently in Afghan. I am looking to buy a 2012 GT in the next month or so. My question is has anyone seen the Lava Red in person, a local dealer has the only GT w/ 3.73 and Brembo with in 300 miles that is not black or in the very high 30s for price. As far as I can tell the color looks almost black with out sun on it and a very dark red with sun on it. What I would like to know is if it looks Purple at all? That would be a huge deal breaker.

I have seen the Lava Red Metallica in person, actually have ordered my 2012 GT in Lava Red. It does indeed look black has a very dark red metallic flake to it when in the right light. Depending on where you are standing, the color can shift to have an almost violet coloration to it.

I've got a 2012 Lava Red GT. You can't go wrong with this color. The color can go both ways depending on the lighting.

Great set of pictures. I would have to agree with the black/red description. Can it look purple? I don't think so. It can look maroon or brownish in pictures but it's not a true representation of the color. Kona turned me off because it looked purple at times but I can't get enough of Lava. My car's ETA is 6/21 and I can't wait!

Thank you for your pictures and responses. I have put a deposit on the car and the dealer is going to hold it until I get back to the states. I cant wait to get back and put some miles on it.
