I did like you said and used my DMM to test my sending unit, sure enough, a big fat "1" on the screen. I stripped about 6 inches of 16ga. wire and wrapped it around the unit (temporary until I go home and my mom lets me use her soldering iron) and then grounded the other end on the power steering bracket. Both gauges work flawlessly now. Thanks a TON for all your help and patience! Now I just gotta fix my lines as they are all leaking really bad. I used teflon tape, and that crap doesn't work at all. Do you think I could coat the threads on all the fittings with RTV and would that seal it good? I'm gonna be redoing my routing when I do my heads/cam. So I'm gonna do it right then. Thanks again JT!

I'd buy you a beer, but I'm not old enough, and you're a long ways away, so this will have to do.

Nice work Chris. I am glad it was a simple issue like that. Been there and done that myself with a poor ground (sometimes I ground senders which are already grounded).

As you know, I dont know snot about Army-Navy fittings. I think that the conical-flare dealie is supposed to be self sealing, but since you have mixed fittings, I don't see why you can't use thread sealer in an application like this (Let's wait for Andy or one of the other guys with AN stuff to chime in about that though).

I am not sure what I would use either - RTV vs Hylomar vs liquid thread sealer, for example. I would likely use the liquid thread sealer (which is normally a No-no on normal AN fittings, but I think it is ok for an oil pressure fitting). It should seal more completely than teflon tape.

Thanks again Chris - I am just glad you got it whipped. And let's see what the smart folks say about sealing threads.
