I have the tune trapper listed above. I live in a metro area so I don't know what the long range reception is like. I can say that I think it works well. My house is about 20 miles for many of the radio stations.
I'm all for the Tune Trapper. I did end up using it in the blue '68 fastback and it works great. Put it up under the dash and forget about it. I'll never have an external antenna on a car I build again.
I've never seen one of those 12V "boosted" hidden antennas work, and I've only heard negative reviews like BarnStang's.
I've also used a power antenna -- just the universal type you can get at nearly any auto parts store -- and it worked fine. It's a good option if you already have the hole in the fender.
I have one that is very similar to that. I picked it up from a local radio shop.
I ran the wires theough the passenger side frame rail and am going to adhere it to the underside of the fiberglass front fascia.
I have not driven with the car - yet, but inside the garage that I have the car in, the reception is great. Jury is still out until I road test it. I am pulling in tons of stations including Seattle Fm stations, which are broadcast from 100-150 miles south of here.
