The engine builder put a high volumn oil pump in my new engine. I finally got it running and it pegged (and stuck the needle) on my oil pressure gauge. My old engine used to run at 50 psi. What PSI should I expect from the new high volumn pump?

Depends on how tight the clearances are in the engine. 70-80 psi,(or more) cold at idle with 20W-50. Both my engines (roller 302 and a roller 331) have 40-50 psi cold with std pumps.

ask your engine builder why on earth did he install a high volume pump on a new engine. it will only cause you problems down the road.

A high Volume pump will not cause high pressure. It just flows more oil at the same stock pressure.

Does too. This is also dependent on the relief valve setting

My High Volume oil pump on a fresh re-build runs about 50 psi running and 25-30 at idle.

I took out a High Pressure that was 75 psi running and 40 at idle.
