On my way back from the hospital. I am driving back normal, when all of a sudden I see the car in front of me sink into the ground and bounce up. I tried stopping, but could not due to traffic, so I hit this humongous pot hole and hear this horrible thump noise. The car ran fine afterwards and it doesn't seem like the car is leaking any fluids. For those of you in the know, what could I have hit down there, anything that I should be worried about? Like I said that car seems to be driving fine, but it seemed like such a hard hit that I am concerned that something might break over time. Would you recommend I take it to the dealer and have them look the car over.

You should be ok. You don't have long tube headers so its not like you would have smashed them up. You might want to get your wheel alignment checked out thought. Sometimes going over a nasty bump can mess that up.

Yes. I would at least crawl under and check. I have also heard of some municipalites having to pay for damage to automobiles from things like this.

you probably either hit your front control arm or the cross member under the oil pan. Both are pretty strong. You can take it to the dealer for a peice of mind if you want to, but I doubt that they will cover it under warrenty due to the fact that it is a road hazard. I too have hit bog ass potholes in jersey, and all is well. try jacking the front up and take a look for yourself.

Thanks all for the responses,

I was just very concerned, since I have never in my life hit a freakin pothole so hard. I will look the car over one more time today and at the very least have the alignment checked out.

The roads in New Jersey suck big time
