Holey siht Batman...I have found a solution for saggy map curtins!!!

...so while sitting in my car in the garage and admiring the fresh scent of exhaust mixed with 93 octane on a quiet Wed night...I start toying around with the map curtins. On my LX they are all saggy and just look old and worn out...anyways that is the most common problems amongst the Fox body stangs...anywho I start pondering how I can fix this ...and here it is...simply pull the rubber band inside the curtin and tie it in a knot ...I prefer to pull the rubber band towards the middle of the curtin since than both the sides of the curtin strech out equally...That's all you're done...and it looks like the map curtins are brand spankin' new...I don't know why I haven't thought of this sooner...

I just called my friend whose got a Mustang and he actually ran out to his garage half conscious trying to do what I just did... If you already knew this...don't rain on my parade.

sorry no digital camera...but seriously it is so easy to do...you can even zip tie the rubber bands after they are streched out and the map curtins straighten up since some times it is hard to tie it in a knot...

Generally, it's not a good idea to sit in your garage sniffing exhaust.

Heh heh- yeah, you could forever cut us off from this flow of intuitive ideas in one fell swoop! Don't think it would work with mine, the bands across the top are nice and tight, it's a strait line from end to end and there isn't any slack to take out. the vinyle pockets are just plain stretched out, where there used to be pleats there's just these sagging bags that have been shut in the door so many times there's holes in the bottom. I think the best solution for mine is new door panels, as the rest of it isn't in much better shape. My armrest pads were ripping off, and I used PL400 construction adhesive (gorilla snot) to glue them back on, somebody at some point thought the power window switch trim came off by just taking out the one screw on top so they have creases in them, and someone also evidently thought that the elbow trim on the panel was removable too- and got it 1/4 of the way off before figuring out it isn't- not to mention the panels have been off the car so many times that half the push pins are missing and the other half have worn out the cardboard backing. My poor car. At least it looks good in the pictures!

Why do we take off our door panels so much? I must not be only one whose door locks only seem to work for about a year!

Once a year? Lucky you. Mine fall apart every time it rains then freezes overnight. Window switches crap out, motors die, retainer clips pop off, it's just another day in Ford land.

Yes, the storage pouches (map pockets) along the bottom of the door. In the older model it is just a piece of carpet.

Mine are streched out as well and it also has A HOLE near the bottom from getting stuck in the door...I don't know how your rubber band can be perfect and you have saggy map curtins...? usually the rubber band looses the tightness causing the curtins to sag...so just pull on the rubber band until the sagging disappears and just tie it in a knot and no more sagging...As for the rest of the door panels...simply use a dye and they will look brand new...All you really need is some arm rests and you can get those off eBay used in good condition without breaking the bank...as for the cardboard behind the door panels being cracked...just make a template from sheet metal and glue it on there...It's not like you can buy brand new ones anymore without breaking the bank...To the Batmobile...seriously check it out...

No, mine didn't really sag, as much as stretch. Some previous owner put way too much stuff in them, and just maxed them out. Stuff too much in there and close the door on it a few times, and they get all fudged up in a hurry- faster than the elastic wears out. I need more than armrests- the whole mini panel that runs along the main panel over the armrest is ripping off- not exactly a servicable item. That's not mentioning the various holes and rips- and 200K+ miles of regular Armoralling isn't something I want to try cleaning, painting or dying. Sheet metal? Not sure these are worth the effort. I think it would be easier to throw them in the garbage and just make new ones out of something else. Not like I didn't do plently of this when I was in the car audio business, just too lazy. It's not going to make the car any faster...

To fix that very problem I got a snap press and some snaps at a fabric store (dont ask how I know) and put some chrome snaps on it - 3 each side - no more sag and it looks as if the factory installed it.
I had the sag - not the stretch

Legendary: Oh an you can get the carpet at 50 resto I believe!
