My hood flew off while i was driving last night. I've heard about this over and over again on the boards and never thought it would happen to me. I got my hood from abc exclusive and I think that it was made pretty poorly. When I installed it I adjusted the latch so that it was as tight as it could be. Last night when I was driving (decently fast) I hit a pothole and the hood got knocked off the latch and went flying about 30 feet in the air. My cowl air vent is completly busted along with the 2 panels on either side of it.

The hood isnt that damaged, there are a few chips on it but the main problem is that the bolts for the bracket ripped straight out of the hood and left holes where they were.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a to fix this because I want to avoid buying a new hood if I can just repair this and repaint it.

Wow... despite my dissatisfaction with the look of my hood pins, I'm happy that they are there.

I wish you the best of luck in getting it all back in order.

my hood has the safety latch like a stock hood has, seems like im one one of the very few that has one to prevent this

My cowl hoodhas the saftey latch as well as like the stock hood, but I still don't trust it. I put hood pins on it.

invest in hood pins. i have seen a lot of hoods come off at tracks. usally guys don't have hood pins or guys who do but forgot to instal them.

I'm guilty of that one too. Brand new, fresh painted hood went right into the windshield, effectively ruining my hood, my windshield and putting a huge dent in my roof. I wasn't too thrilled, but now I know better. You can never be too sure, so get hoodpins.

How hard is it to install hood pins?

I would like to prevent the same thing from happening to my 3" cowl.

Just dont want to screw it up...

its not hard just measure twice drill once.

Same here. If the secondary latch is in good working order, there should be no problem. NOT putting hood pins on my car!!! Been on the car for 2 years w/ no issues!!

I've got the secondary latch as well... Before my hood pin isntall that second latch had caught the hodd a time or two. No problem but I wasn't going that fast either. I didn't trust it enough to keep everything together at or in excess of highway speeds.

same thing happend to me, they totaled my car for it, so i just waited and had it all fixed, cost me about 2500$ to have the whole car done tho, but still it sucks

to fix it....just get four bolts and nuts. drill out the hole so that the bolt fits snuggly in it. now mix up some resin and take a piece of fiberglass mat and cut it into a square thats about 2 inches by 2 inches. soak that in the resin until is saturated and than place it over the hole. push the bolt down into the hole so that the head is wedged in there. let it set up for an hour or so and than put more fiberglass mat and resin around it. make sure you dont get any resin on the threads or youll have to start all over. good luck, if you need directions that are a little more clear ill try my best.

It's not part of the hood, it's part of the oe hardware. It has the hole for the secondary latch to grab hold of, if that's what you mean?

so is the secondary latch the lever you have to pull to pop the hood?

the lever Im talking about is between the grill and the hood.
