Hey well i dont ususally post here this is for my dad. He has a 2002 GT Auto bone stock. IT has had this problem for a while, only 30k on the car. He took it back to ford and they replaced his fuel pump and checked some stuff and said it was all good. But still when you drive it up to temp and then park it and run into a store real quick it takes a few cranks to make it start some times. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

there are a ton of guys with this problem including me. there have been many post about this including some made by me. use the search function and search hot start problem, or extended crank, slow start. somthing thik those and you should get lots of info. bottom line- the dealers have no idea, its mostly 02 gts and some 01's. people replaced many parts but still have the problem. i bought my car new and this has been happening since new.

strange thing with mine is for the first year it was a hot start prob. then it changed to a cold start prob and my hot start was ok. it switched back to a hot start problast year and cold start was ok. recently it is back to a cold start problem, and hot start is pretty good. keep in mind this is over 4 1/2 years. it takes a while to change on my car.

i figured modding i would find the answer but nothing yet.

next year i will be changing to different fuel system for a blower and i will see if the problem persists.

Wierd mine is always a hot one it starts up crisp when its cold. No one has found any truth to the Fuel PRessure regulator being at fault?

I had the same exact problem. Tell the dealership to look at the alternator. I was told that the alternator was sending bad signals to the starter causing the car not to start on the first try after it's been warm. After taking it in 3 times for this issue, they finally found it to be a bad alternator.

I've also had this problem since new (03 GT, 9/02). Happens once in while.

If it was the alternator. Wouldn't it have gone bad/dead after 4 years and 68,000 miles on her?

Mine only does this when there are people standing near the car waiting to hear the exhaust. Talk about embarassing. It hasn't done it in about a month.

Mine was happening all the time. I think they said there was a sensor in the alternator sending bad signals to the starter. Doesn't make sense to me but it hasn't happened since. The car has started every time since it was replaced. So I guess it isn't a bad alternator per say but a bad sensor in the alternator. If that sensor goes bad, the whole alternator needs to be replaced. I'll search through my numerous warranty work papers to see what exactly they said about it. My mustang was pretty much a lemon. I've had about every TSB done to it.

After looking over my papers, I guess I took my car in multiple times for this issue. The first thing they did was replace the IAC which did no good. The next time they decided to replace the fuel pump and the PCM. The final outcome word for word from the warranty work sheet:

Performed EEC system diagnostics. Check alternator ripple per ford hotline. Found alternator putting out signal that causes pcm to loose communication with other modules. Replaced alternator and retest.

I hope this helps get all of your starting problems fixed.

Yeah when my dad took it in and told them about the problem they changed the fuel pump and checked the EEC for problems and that did not help the problem. I guess we will have to look at the alternator.
