When I was at the U Pick Junkyard today, I found several individual and pairs of our Horizontal lights in good shape. I can pick them up for $20 each, clean the lenses, and paint the bezels black to look like Saleen covers, and sell them...
I just dont know if it would be worth it.

Thanks
RC

Used they seem to go for a fairly cheap price. IIRC in the $40-50 range in good shape.

The new never been used ones are just stupid pricey.

It is kinda weird such a drastic price difference. I think in the years to come it will even out some as the NOS parts become hard to find and less and less are found in good shape. I would say another 5-10yrs and they will could see them being like orig. 60's good shape bumpers even more so with people dumping them for 96-98 tails. Of course this depends on people actually knowing and wanting to denote a correct 5.0 SN95 with a factory resto or like us 5.0-ers and our "feelings" on the matter.

If you get them for $20 and sell them for $40-50 that is a nice profit. Now just dont spend 3-4 hours cleaning and painting to make it a $3-5 an hour deal. clean, scuff, paint, and sell with buyer paying shipping. If you can do it in 1 hour that is $20+ an hour...not to bad.

Im actually tired of mine, but I like the black look, so when I repaint the car I will just paint them black. I dont understand why people that want them so badly just dont paint the back black

If they are only worth that little, then I guess it's not worth getting junkers.

you could try to tint the lights with vht niteshades and sell them that way. that's one of the next mods for me if I can find the paint to do it. i don't care for the painted bezel look myself

Because the Saleen bezel is totally different than the stockers.

I wouldn't bother. By the time you work them into good shape, it won't be worth your time. If we're on the same page, you probably wouldn't want to sell something for $20 profit that took you 2-4 hours of work. Now, if you color matched and could whip out a near stock quality pair of tail lights in 4 hours and sell them for $200-$250/pr I'd maybe consider it.

If you put a Saleen black cover on or paint the bezel black, and you are a car passing by you dont notice the difference...you just notice that the bezel is black.

I beg to differ. Are you talking about a "non mustang" person not seeing a difference?

I notice the difference in the shape of the lights. I like it much more. The stock "bezels" look skinny and weak compared to the saleen. We all have our opinion but i searched high and low for the saleens the first time i bought them cause i love the look....and i did it again for the second set. To me its much more than them just being black....i have a black car. Its the shape IMHO

I dont think there is much of a market for 94-95 tail lights...

What I am talking about is the black plastic tail light bezels that outline the lights. They look almost the same as just painting them black.

These are the bezels, but look almost the same as if they were just PAINTED black.
Hope that clears it up.

The difference IMO is that the OWNER of the car sees the difference, not a non-Mustang owner. I personally love the look of the Saleen bezels and I could care less if other people notice the difference.

On a related note, I have a friend who is considering making copies of the Saleen taillight bezels, patterned after my set. This not an offer for sale, nothing has been made. But IF my friend is willing to make these, what would peeps here be willing to pay per set? If he can make a reasonable profit it will encourage him more.

If that bezel that I show in my picture is only covering the stock part of the tail light, then how does it look different than just painting the part that it is covering?

The bezel is just covering the stock part of the light.

RC,

You posted a picture of saleen tail light bezels.....now here is a picture of regular tail lights painted black (thanks 95vert )

Maybe im picky but thats a big difference. And i think saleen bezels stand out even more on a non-black car. You can and do achieve the "contrast" look with black against another color, but to me since i've gotten so used to saleen bezels, stock tails look incomplete without them This is ALL opinion though

Also, memory tells me that we dont have a seperate "bezel" like the 96-98's tail lights. Or do i have it flip flopped? I know one is a solid tail light and the other has a bezel you can remove.

I paid $50 for each set of saleen bezels i have bought. Those werent knock offs.....so use that for a starting idea if you want. After people see/hear about the quality im sure you could get the same since they are so rare.

Anyone know what they were new?

Thats where you are wrong RC, you can see in my picture comparison that the Saleen bezel is thicker than the stock "bezel". The lights dont wrap around as far....the edges are sharper. The red plastic of the tail light is smaller, with sharper lines.

You dont see what we are talking about?

If it only covered the stock bezel area and didnt reshape the light at all, guys like me wouldnt pay $50 for the saleen bezels on a BLACK car.

Glad Im not the only one who knows the difference. The saleens are just way more aggresive looking and I will someday find a set.

Thanks for the side by side comparison. I never said that there is NO difference, I said to many people it is hard to see a difference, especially if you are not very close to the car. If I had to pick one, I would say the Saleen bezel looks better...no doubt. I was commenting on since they are hard to find, and they were expensive before, painting is a VIABLE option...Mainly since the bezel is a "stick on" and painting is more permanent

I was going to sell mine, but I may go with a Saleen rear bumper, so you guys convinced me NOT TOO

saleen bezels must be painted too unless u want a faded flat black look.

I get what u are saying though, guess it depends on if u want the new shape or simply a black contrast. For those of us with black cars....its simply a tail light shape change. You non black car boys have the other option ;-)
