Just wondering what LABOR would cost for this work. It's my daily driver with 90k miles and have no time to work on it. Can't wait to get it running right

  • 3.73 Gears w/ Bearing kit and Traction-LOK
  • Tune - my shop has a dyno
  • Clutch
  • Mid-pipe
  • Fix ABS light staying on and traction control staying off...hopefully just the sensor

Do you have all of the parts or will you need to buy them?

Do you have a hand held tuner?

He won't be doing a dyno tune, he might put it on the dyno but it won't be a true dyno tune unless you are going to drop 300 on a tune that wouldn't be worth it imo.

I would say you will be around 1200-1500 but seeing as you are in Boston it might be more just because you are in an area where they can charge a premium and get it.

I'll need to buy everything, including the tuner. I NEED to fix this whining noise in my transmission when I'm in neutral but I dont need a tuner. I was hoping everything would cost around a grand.

If that grand was meant for both parts and labor it isn't going to happen. For all the extra stuff you are wanting to do the tuner will be a great tool. It will turn the trac control off, fix abs, turn off rear 02 sensors if you need that done, with the gears it will change the computer so that the odometer will read accurately as well.

A clutch and gears will be at least 400-500 just for parts. Mid pipe can range from 100 used to 300 new.

When I got my car tuned I needed the SCT tuner and that is what they used to tune it, the dyno was just to see what #'s I was getting.

When I got gears and the tuner the install and putting it on the dyno for the 2 times it cost me about 1100 for parts, tune and labor. It was a bit more expensive than other places but it was a place I trust and to me it is worth more money for peace of mind.

Thanks for the info. The grand was what I was hoping labor would cost and then hopefully less than a grand in parts.

For just labor you might be close, it all depends. The shop I go to charges 85 an hour for labor and the gears were about 3 1/2 4 hrs but I have no clue on the clutch since I have not had to replace mine yet.

Only thing I have had done on that list are gears and midpipe. Gears ran me $240 for labor and the midpipe was $100.

A true dyno tune will run you $300+

After some research (below), it looks like this will go way over my budget. I've asked this before and I'll ask it again...is it worth it? Starting to not think so.

Here's what I'm thinking
total parts (P) = ~1400
total labor (L) = ~950
grand total = ~2300

3.73 Gears w/ Bearing kit,Traction-LOK w/ tune = 730P + 400L= 1130
Clutch = 250P + 200L = 450
Mid-pipe = 420P + 100L = 520
Fix ABS light staying on and traction control staying off...hopefully just the sensor = 100P + 100L - 200

The biggest change will be the gears by a long shot, but if the clutch is on its way out then the clutch and midpipe should be done. Honestly, the labor shouldn't be 100 for the midpipe since they will have to take the midpipe off anyways to get to the clutch therefore it shouldn't cost anything. Might point that out if this is the route you go. Those #'s do sound about right though.

If you need a new clutch than the "worth it" evaluation really doesn't apply.

Gears are one of the most beneficial performance mods available, period. Why would you want to spend the money on a dyno tune when you only have mufflers and a CAI? You wont see much (if any) gains.

Get the gears done. When thats finished, see what your budget is and replace the clutch.
