Wondering what gear the 06 the wife and I picked up tonight has in it. Any way to tell by a tag on the rear, or door sticker? I know I can always put the rear on jack stands and rotate the wheel, then count the times the drive shaft goes around. I am lazy though. Its an auto. Could it have 3:55's from the factory or did all the autos come with 3:31?

The rear differentials have a tag on them. I believe all automatics came with 3.31s.

Does that really work?

Count how many teeth on the ring gear.
Count how many teeth on the pinion gear.
Divide into each other... will give you the ratio.

If they are still factory ford gears the pinion has the ratio stamped into the face.
Some will still have the tag on the cover with the gear codes.

you can check the code on the door sticker

BG — 3.31 — non-limited slip, base vehicle with manual or automatic transmission
CD — 3.55 — limited slip, GT with manual transmission
CG — 3.31 — limited slip, GT with automatic transmission
