yeah i dont see it either, if its a 428 cj and doesnt have that engine or trani, its not even going to be orginal when u get "some" motor to put in it.....so whats the point...........
The only Ford performance engines that were vin stamped were the Bosses (302 and 429). As long as you find a CJ block of the correct vintage and casting date - you'd essentially be "correct" - It wouldn't be cheap by any means...but it is still a GT500 Shelby and a good restore could be a worthwhile investment - but I think 25k is a little steep for a car that sells complete in the 45 -60k range. (figure 8-10k for the correct drivetrain alone and then you STILL have to do a full restoration)
Not true at all. The engine/transmission/rearend on my 66 Shelby G.T.350H are all stamped with the VIN that is under the Shelby tag and the Fenders which means it was done at Ford and that some or maybe all K cars were VIN stamped. I guess this could vary from plant to plant but I have no confirmation only what is done to my vehicle.
Argh ... you are of course correct about the K code 289's... I should have prefaced it with "the only engines in the '69 and '70 mustangs..." I am unsure about the '71's Super Cobra Jet 429 - that WOULD be the type of engine that got a vin stamp...but I really don't know having never seen or worked on one.
