Whats so special about te MM STB as compared to any other one. I just took my stock one off on my vert because it got in the way of my cleaning. Whats the benefit of a MM STB. Besides the fact that it will fit with aftermarket intakes.
Sorry to hijack the thread but I was going to start one on STB's today anyways, is there any disadvantage, or issues with removing it completely? Will my hood not fit right anymore or anything like that. The engine compartment looks so much cleaner without one.
MM's is a little different in that the attachment points on the firewall are spread apart, instead of nearly joined in the middle. They say it reduces stress on that firewall lip where it attaches, and makes it stiffer as well. I *have* been waiting for the last year for MM to release one for our cars, glad to see it's finally shipping
IT DOES NOT FIT! The firewall and right side line up fine but the left side will not bolt on. My ACT sensor is sticking up too high on my CAI for it to lay flush. It looks like it might clear the ACT if it were still in the plastic snorkel though. There might also be some hood clearance issues but I can't tell yet since I haven't even gotten it put on. I will call MM on my lunch and try to sort this out. You guys might want to hold off though until I find a fix.
It takes a ton on persuasion to get my stock STB in so Im not surprised youre having problems with this one. In my opinion, after 100k like my car, the frame is going to settle in a final position in respect to what it was when produced.
Try getting the firewal bolts started. Then the bolts on the side of the strut towers. Then the ones on top of the strut towers. Thats how I have to do mine because if I just set it on, maybe on 5 bolts line up.
It has nothing to do with that. The fitment is fine. The problem is it won't clear the ACT on top of my CAI. I will try rotating the tube that connects to the throttle body and see if that helps. Also: I talked to a guy from MM and he wasn't very helpful. He told me that the brace wasn't designed to fit over aftermarket parts but instead was designed for factory? I told him that defeats the purpose of the brace since the stock one won't fit over aftermarket intakes. Then he tells me that I should take off my CAI and put back on the stock plastic snorkel. He said I would see more benefits from a STB than a CAI. Those are two different things; like comparing apples and oranges. Oh well, I'll find out in the morning if I can make it work.
Considering most CAI's do more harm than good performance wise, his comments weren't too far off the mark. Besides, it'd be pretty tough to design a part that worked with every single other mod out there for our cars. I'd be happy if that was the only problem I'd run into.
Trust me Numbles, you want the brace on there. I have owned a 2 wrecked Mustangs, both hit in the same place (driver's side front). One had the brace, the other did not. The car with the brace survived with no frame damage--the other did not. Plus it really helps chassis rigidity and suspension efficacy.
I understand that it would be hard to design a part to work with other aftermarket stuff. But CAI is pretty common on our cars so you would think that they would have taken that into account. I'm not trying to knock MM, I have always had good service and products with them. The tech I spoke with told me to rotate the pipe that connects to the throttle body. I am about to go try that and see if it works.
