I need a quick advise

I need to replace my air box since my maf sensor is bad and the car runs like crap giving me all these codes.

Should i go with a cold air intake and which one should i choose. (Mac/BBK/Other?)

Any advise is really appreciated. thank you

Just an FYI the CAI's dont come with a new MAF.

With that being said Id get the one on eBay for like $50. Thats what I did and its is great.

ever try cleanng the MAF? q-tip and some alchohol may do you wonders just be careful...
Lotta guys make their own CAI, cost a couple of bucks (most expensive part is the KnN filter, if you use one) way cheaper than a store bought version
try a searchh on these topics, any info you may need should be in there...
btw the the MAF comes out of the airbox, just gotta take it apart to get at it, easy to do

The guys are right. We'd want a bit more info and have you do some quick tests before writing off the MAS.

Once you access the MAF, here's some info about cleaning the wires.

I'd also ask that you note what codes you had before, then disconnect the battery, press the brake pedal for 10 seconds, and reconnect the battery. Drive around the block, get it up to temps, and retrieve codes again. This will have cleared old (possibly remedied) codes and reveal any new ones.

so i guess i should try cleaning the maf again, even though the dealer said is gone and needs to be replace. (Dealer did the diagnostic because codes wouldn't stay on when the car was idle and took me a month of worthless work trying to get any codes.

The air box is broken also and i need the whole thing there that holds the filter.

should i get a CAI anyways? Is the cai kit gonna work with my current maf if i can clean it alright. I already have those instructions to clean it but thank you anyways.

I guess mainly the questions here is should i put a cai and which one should i get?

Then maybe after installing one and cleaning the sensor i can consider buying another sensor. Is this sounds like a good plan?

Kinda hit and miss..If the dealer told your the MAF is spent then I would get that replaced...a stock one could be found cheap on the boards...Most have upgraded and have stocker lying around..

Pull the element of of the MAF and see if the wire is broke...that would be a quickie to see..

long as you get a CAI for a SN95 it will or should have a flanged pc for the stcok MAF to bolt to...You switch to another style MAF and it probably wont be flanged though...choose wisely grasshopper...

Be careful with a CAI off e-bay though. I ordered one for like $25, and it didn't come with the right size hoses. I ended up having to go to a hose place and buying a dammed $50 piece of hose to get it to fit. I may as well have just gone to Summit and ordered a namebrand CAI. Then the temperature sensor didn't fit right. Threads were too tight. Anyhow, just a word of caution on E-bay stuff.

The only problem I had with mine was that the big rubber peices that connected the piping (that what you might be tqalking about) didnt fit right. I got them on but man was it a PITA.

The Ebay CAI's are peices of crap. When I got mine the bung for the ACT was screwed up and you couldn't screw the ACT in all the way. Basically meaning, air couldn't flow to the sensor properly. Oh and the finish completely sucks, it looks good on Ebay and it looks good when you first get it, but give it around a year. I'd rather run the stock setup over on of those. Just my opinion.

The dealer won't know about cleaning the MAF - it's a cheap fix, and they want you to spend the money for a new one. IF the MAF is dirty, it won't be able to sense how much air is coming into the engine and it'll run horribly. If you need more instructions, a quick search of the forums with "clean maf" should net you some good results.

I doubt you'd need to buy another sensor if you clean it right. And if you want a new airbox, try eBay as well or a local junkyard. But a CAI certainly won't hurt.

I'd suggest cleaning the MAF first and see how the car runs afterwards. Also, pull the negative battery connector before you start and hook it back up when you're done. This will reset the computer and let it start fresh with the new clean MAF. If the engine runs better afterwards, then look into a CAI.
