Replace the ignition switch, it is the problem

There is a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire.

Copy down you VIN number and call the Ford dealer nearest you. Tell them you want to see if the ignition switch recall for Fords & Mustangs was done on your car. They will ask for the VIN number & check it against the master database. If it isn't in the datbase, then you can schedule an appointment to have the switch replaced for free. The TSB is #95S28, and don't let them tell you that they don't do that anymore...

but

i already have had the ignition switch changed and the cats changed due to recall back in 98. so what do i say now wont it be on record that i had it done.
the lock cylinders seems ot be where the problem is it seems to cut out after you turn it all the way ( the turn signal cuts out ) the tunring on the car part is fine

The ignition switch might have gone south again.
Good luck.

I think that he means that if the dealer's database does not have it logged that you already had the recall work done, then you can have it done gratis (since it is a recall item which has not been done yet).

If they look up the car's VIN and see the recall switch was already done, then you are probably out of luck on having them do the work and supply the part for free.

The switch is like 10-15 bucks, so no huge deal.

Good luck.

oh ok thanks.
i found a webpage that walks you through on what is involved in changing one only problem is that it has two tamper-proof Torx screws. it also say you can buy them from napa. i hope i can but it seems like a waste of money to use it one time then thats it but cheaper then letting the dealer fix it.

hmmm i thought it would be the lock cylinder but it sounds more electronic so i guess it would be the ignition switch.

for $10 - 15 buying new is the safe bet
