Today I received a letter from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality notifying me that someone reported my car as a smoking vehicle and that they were requesting immediate repairs.

My response:

Seriously, who takes the time to 1.) write down someone's license plate 2.) go through the trouble of filling out the various complaint forms 3.) follows through with something like this?

I subsequently tossed the letter in my fire place, thus releasing even more smoke

Fkn ridiculous

That's odd. Does your car really smoke, or is someone pissed at you? Maybe they don't know the difference between smoke and condensate?

Seems to me like the 4.6 has pretty tight clearances and I rarely see them smoking. My 97 with more than 180k miles very occasionally gives a small puff on startup from old valve stem seals, but that's nothing. I've also seen the 3v's give a puff of smoke on startup from a poor PCV design. Otherwise, I don't think I've seen a 4.6 that smoked in normal operation.

+1 To this, I've never seen a 4.6 car smoke, and I've seen some pretty ratty ones. 3.8L on the other hand...

Haha.. in El Paso they could stop 3/4 of the cars and find this I'm sure. What really pisses me off is the trucks that are towing other ones usually from California and going directly to Mexico. The vheciles have NO license or registration yet they let them on the roads. I'd be willing to bet some of the individuals behind the wheels are the same way too. It's rediculous but you might follow up because it wouldn't shock me if they do eventually. Whoever reported it though was probably just jealous of the ride.

Wow! Some people have nothing better to do I guess. What would have been better is if your car had just passed emissions. Then you could have sent back a copy of your results with a nice letter behind it with something like "suck it" in big letters.

^this. I work in el paso and see it all the time. Always see cars on the road over here from Mexico that would make cars in the junk yard look like gold. OP You should run some seafoam through it and have someone take a picture of you crop dusting the street, then send it to the TCEQ and tell them all is normal lol

CAN THEY OUTLAW HOTRODDING????

Thats priceless I would have saved that letter LMAO thats classic...like speeding tickets I save all that crap.

Another reason for ALL of us to register for the SEMA bill to help support legislation that keeps our passion for SPEED and Muscle cars alive.

Can They Outlaw Hot Rodding? - Hot Rod Magazine

Check out the most recent article in hot rod magazine.....ITS A BIG DEAL and we need to let our representatives know...even if they are all corrupt with enough voice we can make a huge media and internet stink to make people pay attention!

Its pretty odd actually. It only smokes every once and a while and when it does its just a light haze emitting from the tailpipes and its always when Im stopped. Its barely noticeable. I have noticed that its always the cars with those HID headlights behind me @ stoplights where I notice the smoke, otherwise you wouldn't notice it. It's definitely not like the cars you see on road that look as if the rearend was on fire due to all the smoke. I've just always attributed it to have an O/R exhaust

How is that spam? I joined, and am posting an my comment on an active topic just cause YOU dont wanna give a CRAP about legislation that can affect our hobby how is that SPAM??? I havent violated any terms of use and its NOT SPAM posting a link to Hot Rod...thats what we do is "HOT ROD" our cars..you a may not care about laws that ban aftermarket exhaust....

....but some people on here do...

But when you get pulled over cause those Longtube headers & Pypes mufflers are too loud...and your off road H-PIPE on that 02 Stang of yours violates emissions laws....cause of tree hugger laws then you will care....

Its not like I posted viagra ads or some bullcrap ok Mr. Post NAZI? geez so... Mr. Jackwad with his DVD player watching rich christenson on pinks thnking his lil stang is Mr. Fast ....get off the couch and go cry about it.

I've been on this site alot selling and buying **** in classifieds, and browising info for Fox body stangs... your the jackwad

I bet it has more to do with whatever your "custom tune" is that its running a little rich at idle due to not being at WOT. but still not a big deal, you use to see it alot on fox bodies in the 1-2 shift lol little puff of blue smoke...valve seals starting to go...

My old '96 used to smoke like a freight train. Well, it wasn't that bad, but pretty much every time I would leave off; a puff of black smoke would come out. It burned oil like crazy. Luckily, I live in the great state of SC, where nobody gives a **** about anything.

Do the people freaking out about "hot rod" exhaust not know about those little things called mac trucks? Pretty sure they're a bigger threat to the ozone...

Thats when you pull out in front of your neighbors house, and just do a mean 2nd gear burnout, then they will have some smoke to complain about and some noise too!

It's time to do a Seafoam treatment, and show them what smoke really looks like.
