hey guys i just finished building a 87 5.0 out of a truck and when i was first building it i has a choice between a 28oz externally banalced and a 50oz i got the 28 and today i was reading up and apparently 82 and newer 302s are suppose to be 50 oz. I'm wondering if this is gonna hurt the motor or if i have to replace my fly wheel any advice would be appreciated

Just make sure you get 28oz flywheel and balancer. No problems.

At the very least you will need a 28 oz balancer and flywheel. Was the rotating assembly balanced? This is typically done any time a crank shaft or any rotating part in the short block is replaced.

i did not get it balanced i bored the engine 30 over and the only original part of the short block are the rods and main caps

also i appreciate the quick reply to my thread after building your first engine to find out you put the wrong crank in it kinda makes you have a pacic attack.

Aside from the crank, I would be very curious to see where this motor balances out at. I wouldn't recommend putting a motor together without balancing the rotating assembly. It's one thing to actually match the bob weights and throw in a set of pistons or a crank when making a mid season last minute repair but every time I even put pistons in my motor it's spun on the balancer
