Here's a quick summary of my problem:

I had developed a miss at around 3500 rpm's, checked the codes, showed bad 02 sensors, I checked the fuel pressure in the process and I had failed to adjust it after a intake swap, got the fuel where it needed to be, new 02 sensors and the miss seemed to be fixed. Loaded the car up and hauled it for a dyno tune, under load it had a miss during the first run, not near as bad but it was noticeable.

The mallory dizzy I had in the car had a problem and we put a stock dizzy with new cap and rotor button. Problem solved. (so it seemed)

I got the car out today and took it for a drive, it wanted to get a slight miss in it but seemed to clear up after the engine warmed up.

But I noticed when in second gear running 40 mph at around 3000 rpm the tach needle wants to flutter back to about 2200 or so, you can barely notice the miss and when you go to wide open the problem goes away, sooo any suggestions? I have a brand new accel 300+ ignition. The stock dizzy has all brand new Motorcraft internals.

Needless to say, this is starting to drive me insane, possible that it could be the plug wires themselves???

I had a similar problem a while back and after putting a new dizzy and ignition box in it the problem was still there. It usually went away or at least got better after it was warmed up. Turned out that I had a plug that the gap had somehow gotten closed up on. Regapped the plug and problem solved. Might not be your problem but it is free to check.

Thanks for the reply, new plugs installed and gapped them myself. I'm gonna try the plug wires next

Another vote for misting the plug wires to see if one is leaking.

Good luck.
