I've had a intermittent fuel smell inside my car since I've owned it (10/03).
In the lower intake, you can se wet-looking crap all around the injectors. When I pulled the dizzy last week, I saw the #7 injector, and the whole thing is absouletly SOAKED. There's wet crap caked all over it. Soaked.
Two of the injectors were repalced several years ago (I have all the receipts from the previos owners), but I don't know if that was one of them . I think it might be, because I didn't see any orange, but I'd have to look again.
What do you think it could be?
Poor install resulting in torn 0-ring?
Bad injector itself? What pat of the injector would break causing the whole thing to be soaked?
Is there any way I can diagnose it without pulling the upper intake at all?
Or even if I do, how can I figure out where the problem lies, and what steps are included?

Thanks,
J

UPDATE:
I did all the injectors today (in the rain) Well. engine bay work in the rain, injector work inside.
Anyway, put it all back together, and once I got home, there's still one injector w/ a little puddle beside it in the lower intake
So, my thoughts:
1.) Could I have put too much oil on the top or bottom O-rings when installing? Is that possible?

2.) If I loosened the fuel rail bolts and tried to push the rail down tighter on top of the injectors, might that do the trick?

3.) The injector itself is just **** and I need to replace it.

Anyone have any other ideas or think it's one of those 3?

Also, I have 8 injectors from the GT40P Explorer lower that I have yet to install. Could I use one of those injectors if this one turns out to be bad? I know they look different, but would the computer recognize it and do they flow the same?

Thanks guys,
Jeremy

88's did not have the greatest injectors. one can get an o-ring and pintle cap kit from Borg warner for a couple bucks (get extras as you will probably break a couple).

dont act w/o asking someone who knows (i.e. TMoss), but i think the expolorer injectors (disk style, as i recall) will work if you can get the wiring harness to mate up.

so no real info for ya but bump. good luck.

i personally wouldnt bother rebuilding them with new o-rings i would just purchase new ones and if you want think about upgrading if you plan on doing more modifications to it

Sorry. I was unclear. I rebuilt all of them today, with new O rings and pintle caps. i didn't break any of them thanks to the "let'em sit in boiling water" trick I read in a post
However, there is still fuel coming from the # injector I believe. I thought about going to 24# w/ the GT4P upgrade, but I'd rather spend $30 than $250 if I could...
Tomorrow I'll try to watch it while I manually rev it and see if I can actually see anything happening....
