When I buy this kit-
83-95 MUSTANG SPEEDOMETER GEAR KIT FOR T5 WITH 4.10 REAR GEARS

Do I need to open up the transmission and if so, what will I need as far as fluids, additives, gasket, etc.?

Or is this a direct bolt in and can it be done at home with simple tools?

Thanks in advance for your reply

If the car you are talking about is the '88, all you'll need is a 23 tooth (white) driven gear from a Jeep for the 4.10's. The 88 had a 7 tooth drive gear which makes this work easily. This being said and understood that said T-5 is an 88 model year. If it's the '94, you need to remove the tailshaft housing and replace the 8 tooth driven gear w/ the 7 and use 23 tooth gear

It's real simple. Locate the speedo cable on the T5, it's on the drivers side. It is held in place by a bolt (9/16 ?) remove bolt, pull out cable, take off metal retainer ring, remove gear. installation is opposite. No fluid or gaskets needed.
