installed cam... miss a tooth?

installed cam... cam not alligned?

i just changed the head gasker and put a new cam in F303 cam.... i aligned thje marks and did everyting the way its suppose to be but sometghing is not right.... i hooked a timing light and the 10* mark on the balancer is like an 1 1/2 inch down.... i didnt try to turn the distributor because i dont have a wrench right now but i think its not nmormal... did i miss a tooth when i installed the cam so now it firs way early?

Sounds like you've confused ignition timing and cam timing. They're two entirely different things. If you were a full tooth off on your attempted dot to dot install - it probably wouldn't start, and you might have p to v interference problems.

Perhaps you simply stabbed the dizzy a long way off. You have the wrenches to change the header gasket and to replace the cam, but you can't loosen the dizzy? You had to pull the dizzy to replace the cam -- I'm confused. Put a light on it and adjust the ignition timing....

The car will start with the cam timing off and it may even run ok, but there will be no power. But, I agree, check your installation of the distributor and check the timing.

The car will start with the cam timing off a little - I don't think it would start with the F cam and the cam timing a whole tooth (crank gear) off, AND that might cause valve to piston interference problems - 1 tooth off advanced on the intake side; 1 tooth off retarded on the exhaust side.

haha lonmg story why i dont have any wrenches right now... anyway i'm going to try to put the timing light again....

yea dissy not in right. probably 90 or so off. Did u point the rotor toward #1 cylinder.

nah fixed now.. i have a mark on the 10* on the balancer and this mark was way down when i hooked the timing light... i got a wrench ,moved the distributor to the right and brought the timing up... tnx guys
