Alright i know this is 5.0 tech but i just bought a 93 4 cyl and i'm about to drop a 5.0 so i think it applies here. Also i think there are good knowledgable people in this section.

The main problem i see so far is there are no instrument lights that come on when the key is turned besides the batt light

Prob a fuse but i need other suggestions

When the key is turned to on and the car is off, the rpm jumps up to 900 rpms and stays there, kinda wierd since its not running. I'm not positive if the speedometer works because i didn't drive it home since the clutch was gone and i don't how to shift it without a clutch, so my friend drove it for me.

And the dimmer switch is supposedly busted. i found an extra one in the trunk so it makes me think its not the switch.

thanks guys

edit:

so i checked fuses and found that the instrument cluster fuse was removed. i realized why when the lights wouln't turn off. i assume it the dimmer switch becuase it was frozen on the part where you click your lights on. i broke it loose and it did not dim the instrument lights.

does anyone know how many fuses should have power when the key is off? there are about 4 that have power when the key is out and off, if i remember correctly there is usually two that have power. And when you turn the key to on the rpm jumps to 900, then falls to 400 shortly after.

Is the wires in the plugs that plug into the cluster in the right spot. You can probably find where they are supposed to be online. But I rearranged all mine using a Chilton's manual.

i haven't taken the dash apart yet, so i wouldn't know how the wires are behind there.

i guess i'll find out soon. i have to change the dimmer switch anyway
