i have a stock hood and a cobra intake and was thinkin about adding an intake spacer...anyone know if it will clear my hood and if so is it worth it to add the spacer?
i have a 1" spacer on with my trick flow intake...it clears no problem and i'm pretty sure the trick flow is beefier than the cobra so you should be all set ...as for a power differnce, my manifold was on a race car before, and they didnt charge me extra for the spacer...i assume because unless its on car making lots of power where you need some extra cool air it doesnt really make a difference...not sure though
i run the same setup, cobra intake with 1" spacer and i had to cut away at my hood bracing... also as my motor mounts wore out, the intake would jump with my motor and it put small dents in the hood... its a really tight fit.
Get some of your kid's (or your's if so inclined) Playdough, make a couple of balls that at are a little bigger than the height of the spacer, and place them around the top of your intake; close the hood. If the hood contacts at that new height you will instantly be able to tell.
Add 1/4-1/2" to your Play Dough clearance to allow for engine rocking. Each car is a bit different - what clears in one may not clear in another. You have to measure yours. Why do you want to install it? Unless you need clearance for tall valve covers, there's probably no significant performance advantage to the spacer.
Just the thread I was looking for if anyone can help. So far, my ? has not been answered. I have the tall polished valve covers, so I had to put a 1" spacer between my Trickflow Street upper and lower intakes. A buddy of mine claims one of his buddies (yeah, one of those situations) tried a 2.5" cowl hood with his 1" spacer and the hood hit, hence my buddy has a 3" on his stang w/ a 1" spacer. However, in a mag, not in person, I saw my valve covers on a car that had the holley systemax intake, which I believe would mean he would have to have a 1" spacer, I think, and his cowl only looks like a 1.5". It would really help my budget if I didn't have to buy a diff. hood. I am willing to modify my stock as far as cutting some of the framing of it. But I'm just not sure if it's gonna fit. I can squat eye level w/ the top of the fenders, and the intakes seems to be a little higher. Also, I did get the Mach I fiberglass hood (has 1" or 1.5" rise, I think) off of my other car and laid it on top to see how it fit. The place it hit on the trial fit was the tps on top of the tb. No way it would fit. This is what leads me to believe that there is no way my stock will fit, even w/ a lil mod. And SAYNOTORICE, you have a stock hood on a fox stang with a 1" spacer between your trickflow upper and lower intakes? I just don't see how, but let me know. The help would be greatly appreciated. Well I'll try and help move this thread along. I have a 93 Cobra intake on my SN-95, and I always heard the spacer would not fit. But the SN-95's have less deck top of engine to hood) clearance than a FOX, so it is possible that it would fit on a FOX. I never checked to see how much space there is between the intake and hood, so I'm not sure how much room I have left.
