integral power steering box

i just re-registered to this site after a few years of idling,and i wanted to know if anyone has tried the integral power steering boxes? do they give good road "feel"?

I have installed the Borgeson Box and have been really happy with it. I makes me want to drive the car and in my 66' it has great 16:1 feel. I would suggest it to anyone looking to retain the stock suspension. If you have all of your tools and parts its a weekend swap and if you have your part numbers I may be able to save you some money on the kit or Summit has great prices on it too. thanks for the info,shakin66...i just relised that these boxes are re-manufactured.does anyone know what they originally came from?

Doesn't matter, unless you can add the mounting plate Borgeson welds onto them.

I have no idea and the rumors say from a Toyota Cressida to GM. They have done a great job in manufacturing and it updates the driving experience to a much newer feel. The pittman arm also fits so theres more to it than just rewelding a plate. With shelby coils, 5 leafs on the back, Hyd clutch & a six speed its like driving a completely different car. Might be my favorite mod to date.

thanks for the info shakin. i replaced the whole front end,probably close to 15 years ago.everything that could be new,was replaced.at the time new steering boxes wern't availible so i bought a 're-built' one out hemmings news(how/were they rebuilt with no parts availible,i don't know)

the car has never driven good and i want to take the forklift like road feel out of it on the cheap...lol

it is a 67 that i put a 68 style column and rag joint on.i was wondering if that could be re-used and if their are any junkyard hoses that will work.the motor is a late model 5 liter with power steering.

Thats funny because I "just" rebuilt mine 15 years ago also. I bet all of those new parts dont have 1000 miles on them yet. If you have a Serp. belt drive like I do its perfect because you can use a fox body's pump. and Borgeson has the hoses you'll need. Gill is their tech guy and he knows his stuff.

shakin,have the serpentine belt and fox power steering pump but was wanting to try and cut costs with cheaper (junkyard ) hoses...does brgeson sell direct?

They dont sell direct but I was set up due to having a related business. Myself or Gill can help you with your correct part numbers on the hoses.
My car was manual before the swap.

Earlier there was some power steering kits on Ebay which I believe was based on a older Toyota box. The Borgeson looks VERY similar to an 90's Isuzu steering box, with the mounting eyes cut off and a new mounting plate welded on instead.

You should be able to buy direct from them (Borgeson). I did about 8 months ago. Even got a catalog. I just got one of the "kits". Came with all the right parts, hoses, center link, etc. Shipped from their business to my door.
