Interior Light wont turn off.

I got home from work lasat night and when I pushed in the knob to turn off my headlights, the light on the roof of the car turned on and it wouldn't turn back off. I had to pull the light out.(that thing gets real hot, real fast. ) Anybody know what would cause it to stay on? How can I fix this?
