If you have occasional cheap and lazy tendencies like me, you might find some Plasti-Kote Classic Laquer in satin black. I repainted my ashtray door as a test and if its not the same as stock, I cant tell. I found it at Pep Boys about a month ago. I recently went in only to discover they switched to the Dupli Color line like Autozone and no longer carry the laquer.

when i did my interior i stripped it down to bare metal and used a small wire brush to get all the paint out of the embossed grain then used a metal etching solution before the primer, but all the work was worth the time and effort the results are fantastic , i've recieved many compliments on the interior

when you rattle can the interior. Did you guy's take to bare metal, then put on primer?

I am afraid of causing to much build up in the textured dimples.

take it to bare metal then use metal etch, very light coat of primer and finish with metro's laquer interior paint it is very thin and will take many light coats to cover but won't fill in the grain like an enamel paint will. the metal etch is an acid and will make the primer stick
