Hello,

Long story short, I bought a new Walbro Fuel pump and installed it on my 93 LX. Me being an idiot and new to fuel pumps, I neglected to take off the red cap protecting the pump at the bottom. With it installed, I primed it like 25 times or so and attempted to start it numerous times before realizing my mishap. Should I use it still or get a new one again. The warranty is voided now....

Give it a shot and see what happens. If there is any debri your fuel filter will pick it up before it gets to the engine. If it works do a pressure and volume test to make sure that it IS good.

The pump should be fine. Now you just need to remove the cap. Doesn't it just suck when you look over and see that fuel pump sock laying on the workbench?

Should be good, I can't see a pump going out over something like that. Not like it was running constantly for hours like that. But like mentioned I would check it just to be sure after getting it back together to make sure its putting out to spec.

Thats a good suggestion. I will do that and see what pressure it puts out. Hope I didnt damage it!

I'd actually be a little worried about the lifespan of the pump now.

I'm with Hissin in a sense that it could be ok. Just might have shortened the lifespan but maybe not.

I would be worried too... Running a pump dry is a pump's main cause of failure. Running it hot by not filling up the tank is its second.

Got back into the tank today. Was much easier the second time

Pulled out the pump and found the red cap was slightly loose, but no crud got into the pump. Pulled it off and inspected the pump. No metal shavings or such. Put it all back together and fired her up. Sounds good. So far no probs. Ill get a fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on my new pump. Thanks guys!
