Heres the deal. My 5.0 is finally up and running again. Got the distributor set right and everything else.
My problem now is this. Its an AOD tranny, and when I put it in D and start to accelerate it will not go above 2000rpms w/o shifting into 2nd. It then skips 2nd and goes straight to 3rd where it starts to act fine. It even does this when I floor it. Revs climb to ~2000, drop to 1500, flicker to around 1600 as it shifts into 3rd then acts fine. The problem is my acceleration SUCKS, until I hit around 45-50. I then start to pull damn nicely since the intake upgrade. Also at any mph, I can mat the gas and it will not gear down. it just slowly climbs until its in the correct power band to start accelerating. If I shift it manually there is no problem. I can stick it in 1st, rev it to whatever I want, and shift to D. It is hardly in 2nd any that way, but it was always like that before.
Finally, if Im on the hw and have the car in OD, any press of the gas causes it to act like its "slipping." The revs climb like I have a clutch pressed in. It doesnt grab doing that, and I have to let off the gas to let the revs fall then it grabs at whatever mph I was at. As long as I barely put in the gas it will accelerate in OD, any effort on the pedal causes it to "slip" and rev up.
Is my torque converter shot? Im not used to auto problems. I always just stuck it in D and had at it. This is the first time in 7 years Ive had trouble with the stock tranny.
The only mods to the car are...
K&N 9" conical filter, underdrive pulleys, msd dist cap/rotor/coil, and a Cobra upper/lower intake. A full exhaust is going on it Sat, but Id like to know whats causing the tranny to act like this.
Any help is appreciated!
