I posted the other day that my 02 GT was driving like crap. It drives like the e-brake is up one or two clicks. The exhaust sounds whinny because the engine is being overworked.

In my other post, I forgot to mention that the tranny is acting funny. The colder it is outside the longer it takes to shift from part to 1st when I put it into drive. We are talking as long as five seconds on a really cold day. If I start in first and manually shift to second there is about a three second delay. Is this normal.

I have never owned a GT before but I do know that my 99 Grand Am (bone stock) will kick the crap out of it in a race. I think something is wrong, but it has been like this since i bought it back in June.

Last night I jacked the car up to spin the wheels to see if I have some sort of resistance, but nothing was obvious.

Please help! I know Mustang GT's must be faster than mine, but I'm trying to avoid going to the dealer and getting raped.

As always, start with the cheap stuff first. Change the tranny fluid and filter to start with. How many miles are on the car? It definitely should not be taking that long to shift into drive.

Even If you were living in the north pole it shouldnt have that much delay time between shifts.Yes definately change your trany filter along with fluid and see what happens. And we'll go from there

It only has 34000 miles on it. I checked the fluid yesterday with the dipstick and it looked good. Im just trying to figure out the problem with suggestions before I go to the dealer, slap my wallet on the counter, and pay $80 just to find out whats wrong with it.

Yeah, the interval on the fluid is 30k. Mine had 32k on it and my fluid still looked good, but the transmission was bucking and shifting into OD really rough. Changed the fluid and filter and problem solved. I'd recommend that as a start.

My stang does buck actually. I find myself always turning the overdrive off if I am under 50mph.

Does anyone know how much it cost to get the tranny flushed and a new filter installed?

Cycle through all the gears one good time- go from P to R..wait for it to fully engage, go to N, wait, go to D, wait, so on and back to P..

If there is a long delay between the shifts all the time, but the shifting is consistent and not violent, I would think that the fluid pump for the trans is shot or clogged.
