hi i just change my tune with a diablo predator. they say to watch for pinging. I know is't kind of noise coming from the engine. But since when it's suppose to happen you are kind at full throtle with the exaust sound and all.

I was just wondering if it was that obvious, kind a the car is not going right. I tried it a bit tonight and it seem to do fine.

sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not. just make sure to run the highest octane at the gas station at all times when changing the timing.

You should hear it...or even feel it. It will sound like it is almost comming from under the dash despite exhaust.

Do this, drive up a steep hill in fourth gear over 4,000 rpms. If you don't hear then, you are probably in good shape.

Does it sound anything like and exhaust leak where the headers connect to the x-pipe. Cause I hear a noise on mine and now I am worried that it is pinging and not a leak. I use the 93 octane though and still hear the noise.

Are you a young guy by any chance? Because the older cars used to ping all the time. I say this, because it is an un-mistakeable sound, but too unique to describe. It can sound like marbles in a can if it is really bad. But usually sounds like a....well, I am lost.

OK, how 'bout this. Did you even hear a metal golf wood hit a ball and it kind of pings? Well, pre-ignition (car pinging) sounds like a muffled version of that, but is rapid.

I don't have a chip in my car, but while going WOT on the on ramp the other day, I noticed it pings, so I started using 89 octane... so far so good.

Just had a chip installed on our car and noticed that it pings ... have emailed the shop to see if I should bring it back in. If they dyno tuned it when it was installed, it shouldn't ping, right? Or could this happen even if they tuned it?

I've done a Predator tune and I always either use Mobil or Shell 93 oct. I've noticed that if I do a lot of in-town driving, it feels like it's getting loaded up. And when I finally get it where I can open it up real good, it pings in 3rd and 4th. After a couple minutes it seems like both simtoms go away and it starts running like a stripe-a$$ed ape again...familiar to anyone else?

Pinging sounds like a coule of rusty nails being shaken in a tin can... The times I have heard it, it is very obvious, even over a loud exhaust... in fact, I heard mine over a WS6 trying to pass me with straight pipes. pinging

yup marbles in a rusty coffee can.
pinging does not sound like "pinging".

If 93 octane doesn't help, which it should, then you can install a 180 thermastat to help bring down the heat range on the plugs. Should work. If not then yes a tune would be in order.
