I did some searching today, because I (carlessly) accidently revved a bit passed 6250 in 1st gear this morning. I don't normally do this and I've never mis-shifted (over-revving it that way). The car seems to be running fine, no smoking or abnormal sounds (although I'm paranoid)

Anyways, a few people say that the stock tach is inaccurate. One person said that the needle is heavy, and therefore 'lags'.

On the other hand, I have a SCT 6600 chip and am not sure if the shop removed the rev limiter during the tune(checking tomorrow morning).

Has anyone hit the rev limiter with the tach reading higher than the supposed 6050 rpm limit? Can anyone confirm that the tach is indeed inaccurate, therefore it may not have been revving as high as it showed?

Start your Cluster in Diagnostic Mode:

Then check to see if the RPM displayed on the screen is the same as the Needle.

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I got a new cluster installed at the dealer because mine was 300 rpm's off.
Dealer had no CLUE about the digital test on the cluster.

I'll do a 5000 rpm run and compare... was the tach 300 rpms off all the time or did it become inaccurate while revving high?
