$375. This is just the labor to install the gears and do all the "bearings, shims, ring and pinion." I'm going to stop there before I look like a fool.

I paid about $150 in labor to have gears installed. They also supplied the install kit.

That's cheaper than it is around here for sure. 250-450 depending on what they are doing, what services they provide, etc, seems to be the average everywhere else.

???? Wow. Did you just have the gears installed or did you get all the other stuff replaced at the same time?

the $375 sounds decent. If it all goes together the first time and sets up right, it might not take too long. But if you have to change the pinion shim once, it runs into some time. It takes me 30 minutes just to refill the axle afterwards.

I was pretty lucky and I had it done about 10 years ago. The guy that did it is a korean guy who came to the U.S. as an adult and eventually opened his own shop own, doing only transmissions and rears. I was very concerned about potential noise and he did an awesome job ... super quiet! Have to find somebody you trust b/c all the money is the world doesn't mean they do a good job. He was the only one I trusted to work on my car.

if that price is them providing all the bearings, etc then its a decent price. i paid 150 at a shop and i think all they had to use was fluid.

i paid $300 for labor but i had a new 31spline trac loc, new gears, new bearings and new axles installed. it was a small shop that does nothing but axle work

I do them for 100 dollars , customer provides all parts .....thats not including new wheel bearings or installing the pinion races .... if they want those done I would say 175 for just pinion races installed 225 for wheel bearings and pinion races installed .......

Thats about what i paid for the installation of gears, trac-lok rebuild, bearing and wheel bearing. Much better then some of the other quotes I got...one guy wanted like 1400 bucks or something like that, just for labor.

Well, now I feel a little better. I dropped a 9" chunk off that was toasted and I'm paying 375 for new R+P, bearings, seals and setup

Yeah, the price is for new bearing and seals and all that jazz. I would provide the kit and the gears....they would do the dirty work. It doesn't include the rebuild on my trackloc.

Price is fair if it's a performance shop. Maybe a tad high, but worth it if the shop has a good rep.


I'd be wiery of any place changing the gears, and all bearings for $150 with todays inflation. They might as well do it for free.

Well, I was kinda hoping for a price around $200 to $250. I might need to wait on installing gears. It looks like it will be around a $500-$600 project.

I paid $350-375 when I had my 4.10s installed. It included FRPP gears, labor, any shims, gear oil and other shop items and changing out the speedo gear.

Obviously I live in the wrong part of the country. I would move to Orlando but I'm not into rain everyday and humidity that chokes a person to death .

I lived there three months.

I'll check around for different quotes.
