journey to 12sec/NA GT... Almost there!

Wow I remember my first time at the track with this car, I was lucky to break 14 seconds. When people told me drag Racing takes practice, I laughed, boy was I wrong! Well it's two years later and with a lot of practice, and the help and encourgement of friends i'm almost there..... I've done this on what can only be viewed as an extremely low budget.

We had a very strong headwind and most guys were trapping 2-3 mph lower than usual, myself included..... I'm almost friggin there!

Mods.

Gears: 410:1
Steeda triax
eibach prokit
swaybar deleted
grill deleted
wing deleted
rear seat deleted (bracket still in though)
40 series flows
Tires: Stock front @50 psi
15 inch Aluminum rear w 26.5 x 10.5 et streets
Custom tune by customtuned.com

We didn't get teh 13.2 on vid but here is a 13.3 from the same day..... Please right click and save as......

Awesome 60ft time! I have two questions:
- what is your launch technique?
- do you still have the stock rear end? do you have problems with the clutch packs on et streets?

Ho BTW, I'm also almost there. 13.26 @ 104.8 mph with a so-so 60 ft time (1.96).

I have similar mods and et streets... Looking for a good launch technique on the stock rear end.

this is why he is so close to 12's thats the way you want too build for drag racing first get the most out of what you have before you add power.

the 15 inch wheels with et streets and the 4.10's those 2 mods combined is what got him good 60 ft times. you will never even sniff those times on street radials.

Good 60 fts time and say goodbye to your stock rear end.

I have the same mods & slicks and my clutch packs are pretty worn after only 25 runs. I'll most probably soon break an axle.

The launch technique is as follows: Rev it up to about 5 grand and sidestep the clutch, than shift cause you'll be at reline in about .5 secnds. As far as the clutch packs go: The rear end was rubuilt last week with all stock components, but was set yp very tight. It hops around corners now.lol

A 12 second GT isn't that hard to do.

A freind with a Bullitt with pulleys, exhaust,SFC's,gears and DR's ran a 13.3.
This is full weight and the guy had never been to the track with a stick car before.
Put some LCA's on and disconnect the sway bar and he'd hit the 12's.

A GT only need a few more mods to match that. If you have ~270hp at the wheels and you aren't in the 12's you either have a car that's too heavy, you need traction/chassis/suspension help, or you can't drive.

Yeah, it takes practice and guts to get 12's though. Sticky tires and a 5k rpm launch screams for a built rear end....

next time you say its not hard to do...use an example that is in the 12's then...

nice times. next time you are at the track build the rpms up to where you want to dump the clutch instead of holding them there and see how that works out. a midpipe/plenum and tb would get you into the 12's. thats the setup i had on my vert and cracked them once. I should have had the car tuned but never did, i probably would have had a much more consistent run in the 12's instead of the strings of 13.00x's i ran
