i mean i can always back out of the deal. i do have seven days to pay. so what do you guys think i should do? go find a cheaper engine? i do think shipping was a little too high. they said that they only do conway. won it for $580 shipping is $145+$35(crating fee) from winder georgia to monroe louisiana. in the junkyard i seen a 2000 block but the intakes were gone. it was just the block and the heads. im guessing it rained all in the engine. engine had about 135,000 miles on it and wrecked from a roll over. but the junkyard wanted too much. they told me $188 at first then when i came back to get it they said $288. im like wtf? so whats the cheapest route? $760 is too steep. you guys got me thinking now.

you are getting a lot of stuff with the motor like complete intake an 65mm tb that might make it easier an worth a few extra bucks.

I'd keep it. 54K mile lower end, GT-40Ps, GT-40 style intake, 65mm TB.

Swap in an 86-88 HO camshaft (or aftermarket if you want) swap the springs to mustang springs and sell off all the other misc explorer stuff you won't need like the COP's and such.

thanks for the replies i guess ill pay for it tomorrow. so all i have to do is take my cam,oil pan, and timing cover off my old engine right? plus new springs, pushrods, and valve seals? you think i could do all of that in a day? what about gaskets from autozone, etc? what do i say gaskets for a 2000 explorer or 93 cobra?

the valve seals and push rods may be fine that are in the explorer motor. do you have an air compressor for changing the gtp springs with out removing them from the motor?

The gaskets should be the same. Just ask for the exploder gaskets as they may not have the provisions for the EGR like the Cobra does

Might take more than a day to swap all the engine stuff over. You should take your time.

I think you can use your stock pushrods. The rockers are the same as Mustang rockers, but the springs are weaker. That's why i suggested swap the Mustang springs on if you are running a stock Mustang cam.

If you are gonna toss an aftermarket cam in, go with the TFS or Crane springs. Also, check PTV clearance.

Fel-pro sells a complete gasket kit from summit. Might be cheaper than buying the individual gaskets.

You sound like youre new at this, and this will be your first time.

I had alot of the same questions on my mind, but i did not have the advantage of having a complete motor. I would use that to your benefit. Tear itno the explorer engine while your mustang is still drivable. Then just swap the motors, rather than working on 2 torn-down engines. Alot of your questions will be answered when you can see it.

Just pull out the cam sensor thing in the Explorer motor and put your distributor in, simple as that. The oil pump is the same, you can replace it if you like. Like someone said, when you see it its pretty self explanatory, more or less just dress the Explorer motor like a Mustangs.

for changing the springs you need that fitting that screws into the spark plug hole an the air line attaches to it. then you need the screw down spring compressor. i've read where people changed them without air by feeding nylon rope into the spark plug hole, turning the motor over by hand till the rope is pressing the spring up.

You don't need a larger compressor for it as it's not a huge volume of air. You can prob rent a small 5 gallon compressor from Home Depot which might be easier than grabbing your uncles 200 gallon industrial compressor.

The compressor should have a high output, >100psi but it doesn't need an extremely large volume.

no, put one in when you change the oil pump.
the current explorer set up runs off a crank trigger. there is a just and empty hole and a rubber plug where the dist and drive shaft should be.
