Hi,

I have a 2002 GT with a 1.7L 6PSI Kenne Bell blower. It puts down 300/340 HP/TQ at the rear wheels. It drives real nice. The drivetrain is stock but for 3.90:1 gears. Last year I flunked smog because my computer failed to complete all the OBD-II self tests. The sniffer portion was fine. I contacted Kenne Bell, got a new chip, and was told to drive the car until the P1000 code went away. Well, it hasn't. I contacted two Ford dealers and they said Kenne Bell's chip is preventing the computer from completing its self-diagnostics. The tech said the computer needs to store the self-test data and Kenne Bell's program is interfering with that storage, hence the P1000 trouble code. I also ran a Powertrain Dynamics custom tune via a Predator, but it also generated a P1000 code that would not go away. BTW, the install was done correctly, 100% per Kenne Bell's instructions.

It seems that Kenne Bell does not know how to fix this issue. Neither does Powertrain Dynamics. Can comeone help me? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

-Ralph

im having the same problems(2002GT with a 1.7 kenne bell kit), however im using the Xcal2 with a custom tune. Only thing turned off is my rear cats.

the two systems on mine that arent getting ready are the EGR and the catalyst

Did KB tell you to keep driving it too?

Do you drive it at least 50 miles since resetting the computer before you go to get the test? I haven't had any problems and I am using sct. My buddie is using diablosport with a tune from a local place and he isn't having any problems either. If you are driving a bunch of miles without unhooking the battery or reflashing the computer it should be fine. If not then the problem is in the tune you are getting and I would try to find someone locally, that way you have somewhere to bring it back to if it doesn't work.

The problem with that is the tuner told me the P1000 code will either go awy or it won't. If it does not, there's nothing he can do about it. KB told me to keep driving the car. The dealer won't even look at it.

Im not going back to smog it if the P1000 code is present because I'll flunk again.

I was hoping one of you can recommend a tuner that has solved the P1000 issue.

you can get rid of the p1000 in a 10 mile trip under the right conditions.I have passed with my KB and stage 3 blower cams. your tuner saying he can't do it is bs,you have the wrong tuner, see my sig.the key is to have full egr flow in the tune and run the stock exh.(for me anyway). the hardest one to set is the evap. flag

Ford Motor Company Driving Cycle

maybe this will help

The CAT and EVAP flags are flashing, the others have completed their test.

OK,

I did the driving test as suggested, and the CAT flag settled down, and even the EVAP for a few minutes and I got the green light, but then it started flashing again. So does this mean I have a problem with my evap?

you could have a problem with the EVAP system. have you changed the gas cap? you can also smoke test the system for leaks.

+1 filler neck grommet is another common failure spot.

No, never had the tank out. The car is stock other than the gears.

But I just thought of something: KB told me to move the IAT sensor into the fenderwell and plug the hole to nudge the computer to complete the self-test.

I'm wondering if this is why the EVAP was completed for a minute, then un-completed itself.

I'll put it back in the intake and do over.

But this is good news, no? At least something is happening.

the iats have to be in a certain range to complete the evap monitor(not over 100*). I due mine in winter so I don't have that issue. being summer time that can be an issue, you can also do it in the evening/early morning too

How important is it to have a half full to three-quaters full fuel tank for this? I've been doing it on a full tank.

Well, I drove about 20 miles today, continuously at 40 MPH at part throttle with a 3/4 full tank of gas and no changes. The EVAP flag is still flashing.

I have 3.90:1 gears. Does RPM at 40 MPH affect this test?
