Legislation to Repeal Old Car Emissions Exemption Reintroduced

No state inspection
No emissions testing (unless you live around ATL) - if your car is more than 10 or 15 years old it doesnt require it
70mph speed limits

I did my part. Emailed every Senator in Cali. I own a 76 cobra ii and these would freeze me out of the exemtion by one year

just passed through the Assembly of transportation. Now I'm really worried. I think one more hearing and then it's up to the govenator. I'm thinking he will sign it to keep the tree huggers at bay.

Oh man, I'm feeling for you guys. It's kinda like whats happening with guns here in Oz. I sure as hell hope they don't try and make older cars here have to be emissions compliant (although mine might make it anyways, that's the plan ). Although, they sorta do make all cars compliant to emissions regs, but there were no regs for cars prior to 1971 (here at least).

I have two ideas to solve the problem though, one involves these delightful individual runner intakes I have found (like Webers, but injection) with two injectors per port. Use TWO injection computers like Accel DFI to run the 16 injectors, which has an RPM switch, to turn on the second set of injectors, complete their circuits so the second injection computer can provide fuel to the motor as well. I think this system would give GREAT fuel economy and awesome power through its efficient design. Becuase you have twice as many injectors, you run really small ones, that atomise the fuel really well, leading to extreme efficiency.

The second idea is that all us classic Mustang lovers start our own country, we'll have to of course fight for some land to put said country on, but in the end it may be easier than putting together the injection system I mentioned above. lol.

Actually I think the injection system would be easy, just splice all the inputs together, etc.

this is a different law than the one that we beat down last spring right? the one that would have made my car (a 66) testable? will this law go after testing of cars that were never tested originally (such as muscle cars)?

Concerning Route666's reply, a friend of mine has a supercharger on a 4 cylinder Porsche with a larger fuel injected throttle body that feeds through a cat converter and STILL PASSES THE SMOG TEST. It looks so good, it can pass as a factory installation. (Of course it also helps that the people running the test station hardly ever see a Porsche come through there )

I think what was previously said was correct, the law applies to '66 and later. If I did have to test my '65 though, having a smog license I'd have to overlook any portions of the test that didn't meet 'state' approval.

Why smogging your own car is legal, I don't know.

does it stop the rollback, or does it require all cars to be smogged again? It seems to me sema or someone should write up a proposition and let the state vote on it. Once this happens the legislature will not be able to do anything about it and will have to find other ways of lowered the pollution in this state.

I wonder when the CA Legislature is going to get a clue. They are already driving businesses out of the state to the point that someday the state is simply going to implode and they continue to show their lack of cognitive resources with this type of smog legislation. I feel really sorry for you guys in CA and I am damn glad I don't live there anymore.

The Most overlooked part of the push on the Smog Bill is
the fact that the manufacture's placed smog equipment on all vec's
from 1974 to be 49 states cert.
But not all models prev were Ca certified, But are in the state now,
Thats where the loophole is.
Their pushing for 1974 and newer to be smog tested.
So making a Change major or minor can Fail a emission test.
And stop the Rolling years Excemption.

Have eather referbished like new or modded the classic's we own.
Show me the Numbers, How many new cars that have poor emissions, And are on the road. Compared to the amount of miles driven by Classic's. Which is more.

You know, after I got my 65 in a 70 mph ticket, I came to realize that Cali is THE most Fubar'd state we have, and if some day it slides off into the sea, well, we still have 49 more. We could let Puerto Rico in and wouldn't even have to change the flag. I don't want anyone to die. That is not my purpose here. Just calmly, and as quietly as you can, (and take the back roads) leave the damn state and take a big crap right on the border as you exit.

There is no need to do this at all. If you're running a standalone computer, it will have no problems running a large injector for a very short pulsewidth time. As long as it's tuned properly, it should pass emissions with flying colors.

You know if they pass this it another step forward into trying to get our carrs off the road. Even though we don't have to pass smog, they will try to do something to our cars. I already emailed her and I already let her know how I feel.

BTW You know she drives a SUV.

Yeh I know, but it'd be even better with the smaller injectors, you'd probably have a cleaner car than most new ones
