What is the lightest (from the factory configuration) 5.0L Mustang? Looking at Carpoint, which has '88-'95 Mustangs (as well as my SVT Recognition Guide), it would appear that the 1992 LX 5.0L 5 speed coupe with no AC/cassette player/cruise control and manual windows/locks would be the lightest (MSN lists it at 3010 lbs but doesn't specify whether that's with or without options or how much gas). But I don't have any official or even semi-official info about the 79-87 5.0L Mustangs. I'm guessing that a no options '79 Mustang base model coupe might be lighter.

How much do you weigh? And is the power crap the power windows/locks or something else?

Thanks.

I'm 175ish and it is a no power car. Maunal door locks, windows, mirrors, no AC, no radio when who ever ordered it but @ 3100 it had a radio. All weights listed above are without me in the car.

i've got a '92 coupe, 5spd, GT interior package, which includes upgrades carpet/seat materials, power mirrors, power lumbar seats, cruise control and am/fm/cassette with 6 speakers. Car also runs ponies.
with 1/4 tank of gas, and spare tire/jack removed, the car weighs 3080lbs.

3010 sounds about right for a no options LX... especially if it wears turbines.

I'd say '79 too. '79's even came with aluminum drums and front bumper absorber.

SOme of the early 4-eyes came in around 2900 lbs...even with power options. I could see a '79 V8 coupe with no options as being under 3000 pounds easy. There is just less stuff in there to clutter the car. The later EFI cars are a tad bit heavier than the carbed cars

Same goes for the 87-93's. Most likely, the 87 notch is the lightest. The '87's had the base model clotch seats which are 40 pounds lighter than the seats in the '92. Also, no heavy air-bag sensors and wheel and computer. We are prob talking a 50 pound difference or so really.

The 92 has airbags? I didn't realize Ford put airbags in their cars that early.

I don't have any specific weight info about the '87, but MSN lists the '88 as being 35 lbs heavier than the '92. Why do you suppose that is listed that way? If it's correct, what would an '87 lack that an '88 would have?

MSN also lists Leather seats as an option for '92 LX 5L models. Though in the particular class I'm racing in, I can replace seats... I only care about what's in there to get a better idea of what the weight would be after I do the mods, so starting out with OEM no options bone stock car weight numbers is the only practical way I can figure out which model/year to choose.

Ford put driver's airbags in starting in '90.

The only difference between an '87 and '88 is the addition of a mass air meter on '88 cali models. Maybe a 1 pound difference. Other than that, '88 was a carryover year of '87.

Leather did come in the later fox years, but the lightest seats are the ones uses in the 87-88 LX hatches (used 87-90 in coupes). The GT sport seats (especially leather) are a tad bit heavier.

I wouldn't really trust MSN's numbers. I'm not sure how careful they were to make sure they tested each model with the same exact options. The general consensus is that since 1979, the Mustang has gotten heavier.

You want a light stock fox...think early 79-86 model. A light 87-93? I'd go 87-88 coupe.

I have heard about the aluminum drums but never heard how much lighter they are. Will they bolt right onto a 87-93 car? I have read that it was the rear bumper that was aluminum on some but also read that the front bumper was aluminum, were they both aluminum? I still havent come across one in the wild.

My old 1983 Vert came out of the factory weighing 2759lbs. I weighed it before I sold it, and it weighed 2860... Go figure
