just curious, would you Lightning owners not recommend your trucks as daily drivers. I am considering one whenever my car sells. I really love the truck but being automatic and supercharged, i could imagine 8 MPG easily. My friend would drive his dad's 04 Dodge 1500 sport with the Hemi and when he floored it, it got 9-11 MPG, and that's N/A. Also, they need 91+ Octane right?
Pully, Intake, Exhaust should = Mid 12's?

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of Lightning owners here on Stangnet, at least not very vocal ones.

If I remember correctly the Lightning was rated at 12/16 MPG City/Hwy in STOCK TRIM.

Yes the Lightning requires premium fuel and yes a pulley, intake & exhaust Lightning is capable of 12 second ET's. As for whether it would make a good daily driver... only your wallet knows the answer to that question.

I think that this falls into the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" catagory. Or, if you're like me, the "there's more to life than gas mileage" catagory.

Yeah, I suppose I'll cross lightning off the list of potential new vehicles. a 6 speed would have helped a little. I have to commute to school and back twice in one day, twice a week. not too practical then huh. nice truck. one day...

SVTPerformance.com has a fairly active Lighting forum. You might want to ask the question over there.

Mine gets about 14ish. Stay out of the boost most of the time to get decent mpg's but you will find that a very hard thing to do! L's are *very* easy to make 12sec. capable. spyne is right though on the svtp thing...

I say buy one.

Heres a pic of mine:

yours is pretty sick. i won't have much $$ to mod anything i get next. it'll have to be over time.

I'm kinda a horrible situation with my car right now and don't know what to do. I'm considering Mach 1, 03 Cobra, Lightning or randomly a CLK430. I need to get rid of my car asap or trade it in but i'm gonna take a $3k loss either way....

Why do you need to get rid of the Cobra?

That is exactley what I was going to buy (98 black Cobra) but ended up with the L instead. Very happy I went this route. I understand about money too, I have 3 kids and Im tryin to buy a house so... Yeah wont be doin much for a bit.

Owning a Lightning and worrying about fuel economy seem like contradictory concepts to me.

I always get about 14 mpg in my Lightning and thats mostly highway miles. But of course, I never do the speed limit. Also, its my daily driver.

A pulley, intake, and a tune will get a Lightning in the 12's easly.
