I should have payed more attention. It has a 4"id so it fits and supposed to flow over 1000cfm, but I wonder. My other one was so huge I had trouble fitting it into the fender well and thats why it would pick up water.

Here it is compared to the old one

Only thing I would be concerned with is air flow. I am no expert so I am curious what the 'stangnet pros' think. If everyone says it will work fine, I am getting one. I've always wondered the deal with small vs large K&N's with regard to flow. I need a smaller one too due fitment issues.

That thing is a lot smaller.

Ehh you just have to make it fit .

But seriously, the biggest you can get in there is the best. Smaller ones have less surface area to pull air from = less flow and more strain on the engine. (slightly less hp...probably 1/4 of a HP) Its not really a big deal.

LOL!

It should be noted that it is important to keep it oiled up but not too much or it will make a mess.

That is what I thought regarding the surface area/air pull ratio. But the filter he has will work? Or will the motor struggle and run crapy because it isn't getting enough air? I'm talking about at WOT ...

Oh, I'm sure it will run OK, it's just that you're not going to gain very much with a CAI on a stock or near stock engine, and if you slap on a smaller than stock filter, the gains, if any, will be very very minimal.

It's not the size of your filter unit, it's how often you use it..

No way that flows 1000 cfm. I am very familiar with K&N filters, and have experimented with probably 20 different sizes in my various vehicle. I'd say that flows about 300-500 cfm max. Email K&N with the part number, they are pretty good about releaseing their CFM numbers if you ask.

Simple physics would seem to indicate that a larger filter will flow more air

With that small filter you'll have two things

1. An engine starved of air

2. A helluva loud whoosh when you mash the gas

Bigger is better in this case.
