Are they? I just read that they were on here. Also would getting them installed void the warrenty considering they must lift the engine to do so? If I got them installed by the dealership i bought my car at would that help?

yep they are because they alter the stock amount of catalytic converters and also thereby change your emissions.

i think

damn that sucks, anyone know how strict they are about this, i live up in Oregon for part of the year and could get them installed up here if I wasn't worried about them having to be removed, that would really suck. I plan on getting a magnaflow x and magnapacks so i think I would still pass emissions since I have cats. Anyone in cali with longtubes?

you will not pass the visual inspection with long tube headers. unless you have a "friendly" smog tech.

as for emissions, i didn't think the magnaflow x fit on long tubes PLUS it has 2 cats not 4, so you'll fail visual on that too regardless of whether it fits.

there are people in cali with LT's but they just run the risk of getting pulled over and inspected or failing their smog inspection whenver it comes up.

ok, so longtubes are not a good idea, I am glad I saw this before I droped 2 grand buying, installing and uninstalling them. So can you not have a magnaflow x pipe in cali either since it only has 2 cats?

the mangaflow x will pass emissions or so i've heard, so the sniffer will pass your car. but when the tech looks under the car (if he does), if he wants to he can see that you have only 2 cats instead of 4. currently the only "x" shaped pipe i know is the magnaflow Tru-X, which welds on after your 2nd set of cats and before the cat back.

there is a smog legal aftermarket H pipe available in cali but its from a shop down here. look in the west coast forum at the H Pipe thread and check that out.

as for headers, if you want something close to LT's, go with JBA Shorty headers

you just need a friendly smog check person like stanglx said.
i passed with my magnaflow, the guy even told me the sniffer would have to pass since i had 2 new cats =). either he didn't know or didn't care (i also had the nitrous jet still plugged into the intake and the bottle was connected too, he asked "what is that? nitrogen?").
it all comes down to just passing the sniffer part and finding a person that doesn't care wut kind of parts you have on it.

i wanted longtubes for the high end gains, I spin my wheels enough at low rpms so i wasn't even considering shorties. So even if an x pipe is not "off road" it is still illeagal in california?

the law is: if it alters your stock amount of cats, it's illegal.
