Looking for a Cowl Hood. Who to buy from?

Im looking for a 4-5in Cowl hood for my 65. Anyone have experiences with companies that you would recommend? Let me know.

Though I have no experience with them, K.A.R. makes a 65/66 hood.

Any hood you buy is going to need some work unless you get it from Mustangs to Fear. They finish the underside of their hoods and the fit is the best out there. They have incredible products for 67/68 cars but I know they are currently working on new parts for 65/66. I would contact Rich (owner of MTF) directly with your question, I'm sure he could help you out.

I used usbody for the snorkel hood, some fitting req'd. I used VFN for my deck lid. I stretched my quarters and had a slightly larger hole than stock. My steel deck lid wouldn't fit afterwards, so don't know if VFN fit well. VFN was better quality, but they sent me the wrong deck lid. After a couple emails they sent me the correct one, and a shipping tag to return the wrong one. Good luck. Good news is fiberglass work is not hard. It is easy to fix them to fit.

I know lots love Glasstech products but not sure what's available.

Most the cowl hoods are really edgy/boxy looking though.

Thanks for the help guys. Im also looking at a company called Unlimited Products. UP22.com
Seem to be decent, and they are out of L.A. Since im down there fairly often, i could actually look at it before I buy. Anyone used them?

I bought a Shelby style hood from Unlimited Products probably around 20 years ago. It was not very good quality, but they may have greatly improved their quality since then.

When I was looking up22 had numerous unhappy customers, I couldn't find anything positive. Not only was fit a problem they weren't taking stuff back. I don't have any personal experience with them, so they might be great.

you sure a 4-5" cowl is what you want?

I have a Maier Racing hood i got about 16 years ago.it has about a 3" cowl, anything more might look out of place IMO

Well, best i can tell, i need atleast 4in or so. With a 351, Victor Jr. Heads, Super Victor intake, Carb, And extreme Velocity Hat, It looks like im about 3.5-3 3/4in above the fenders, best i can tell at least. Its kinda hard to measure. A few places only have either 3in or 6in. 6 is just plain huge. So just looking in the 4inch range. Id rather have 3in.. but not much choice.

Well, i have called every company that has been sujested above. None of them make a hood the size i need, except UP.. Never thought it would be this difficult.

I know vfn will add a scoop to the hood. Not sure if they have a cowl scoop to add. Are you set on a cowl. Like I said I bought the snorkel from usbody on sale for I think $250. It is tallerr than I wanted, but it'll work. I would have cost quit a bit more to get a shorter scoop installed. I think I've seen 3.5 inch and maybe a 4 inch tear drop.

No, its gatta be a cowl. Never liked the snorkle or teardrop look. Looks like Glasstek has one. So ganna see if i can get a pic of it.
