i think you need two sets of keys to program any additional ones. i could be mistaken but you might need ford to reprogram everything for you if you dont :-\

If you have no keys or just one key, you get to have the dealer program it.

When we sell people keys we try to sell them 3 so if they lose one they dont need to pay for programming the next time.

btw the way that the stores do it where they stick the key into something to program, they just copy the info from one to the other so the computer does not know the difference between the keys. The PCM can identify between different keys used.

You have to get the key first, but programming your fob is easy.

Iirc, you turn the ignition on and off 8 times, leaving it on the 8th time, then press a lock or unlock button on your door, then press the button on your fob.

When I bought my car, I only had one key and fob, I bought another fob at a swap meet for 10$ and the lady told me how to program it. Took like 30 seconds in the parking lot to do it, and I think that's what I did. As for the key, luckily about a year later the guy that traded it to the lot I got it from found me and told me he still had the spare key (could have been a scary situation) but he came to my work and gave it to me one day.

+1 , That's the only way to go although it can get pricey.

I realize I'm a little late to the party here, but you don't have to go to the dealer to get a key made and programmed. Your local locksmith should be able to cut and program the key and remote for you.

True they can, and they can do it wherever your car is. In our area its cheaper to have the car towed to the dealer and have us do it. The one advantage to a locksmith is they can make a key to the car vs cutting to code. Ford only keeps key codes back to 2001MY, anything else you're SOL without teh silver tag or if the selling dealer still has it in their logbook.
