Make sure you guys are not putting labels on those burned cds, thats a common problem in the Mach460 and not being able to eject them. Also try burning the cds SLOWER. I noticed that when I burned at say 7-12x instead of 40 it would play the cds ALOT better, plus they sound better. Yes it will take you a couple of more minutes per cd, but come on now...

If you want to replace the head unit, simple get the 15 dollar harness off that link and just disconnect the old unit that you want left in place, its really not that hard

A new head unit is not going to help the weak cones on the OEM speakers. They sound Ok at low levels but, not for long. With the windows down I could barely hear my 460 system in my 98' and you have a convt trust me aftermarket speakers will help alot!

I'm looking at replacing just the head unit right now. I have already ran a liine converter to add a sub in the trunk. Too bad the trunk on the verts is so dang small. Got stuck running one 10" in a bandpass enclosure. So I know what I'm doing this weekend.

I hear you on the trunk being small in these cars. If you want BASS, you have to sacrafice space. I have 1 JL12w3 in a ported enclosure. The amps R where the spare used to be. Not much room for anything else. Yours is even smaller.

Ehh, I've got a lemon too in that case...I seriously think it's something to do with the verts. I know my car isn't COMPLETELY watertight, so condensation can get inside and make its way into the CD player, so I'm guessing that's what has killed it.

Mine does the same exact thing with CD-Rs, pretty much started doing that about 6 months ago. Now it tries to crap out on a store-bought CD Ugh, this summer I'm definitely springing for a new head unit. I like the idea you have about the remote, that'll def. come in handy w/ the top down and listening to music outside the car!

Are you gonna replace any of your speakers too? One of mine (left rear) is starting to buzz a little on the higher end and sound like chit. Any recommendations for good quality speakers?

Well maybe it is the older verts that got the short end of the stick! Anyhow, I'm well aware of putting lables on the CD's. It throw's it off balance. So that's not the case here, just a crappy CD player.

As for what after market speakers to use to replace the BOSE. I would say if you can find the right size, use MB Quart, JL Audio, Boston Acoustic, Nakamichi or last result Rockford Fosgate. These brands can really handle some abuse on the high, mid and low end. Bose used a fairly good amp and corssover set up so as long as your not trying to rock yourself to the moon you can just replace the speakers. I plan on replacing everything at some point, so I'm going to start at the heart...the head unit. Then I'll move on to amps and speakers. Good Luck with your swap.

If you plan on doing it yourself, you can get the DIN pullers at your local auto part store. They are the shape of a U and have little balls on the end. With the wireing harness install should take no more than 20 min. if that.

You don't have the Mach 460 system and if you do, I'm sure it's a newer model head unit. I have an old one in a 98'. I have cleaned it and still won't play burned CD's worth a crap. Oh well. Too bad those wiring harnesses are only up to 97

Sorry, Mach 460 it is w/ a 6-disc changer. Works great.

It could be the type/brand of CD's your using.

Bose uses (or used to use) some funky resistance, you can't just swap a new set of speakers into a car with a Bose system without replacing the head unit. Unless you meant to say base?

use scosche fdk10 for the harness and the fd15b amplifier bypass harness. the fai-3 will work too instead of the bypass, no firsthand experience with it though. didn't like the idea of just changing the volume level.

i just got my system installed and if u use ONLY the fdk10 harness, it will sound like CRAP. LOTS of noise and VERY high volume.
using the fd15b bypass will make it so the headunit powers the speakers directly, instead of through the mach amp. the noise disappears and the volume becomes normal again. the fai-3 might fix it too.

the amp is in the dash under the cd player. the places u plug the bypass harness to are at the back left and back right of the front amp.
DONT GO CRUTCHFIELD, that place rips you off.

The single CD player in my 2000 gt is starting to go. I am in the process of swapping out my 2 single din units with an OEM 6 disc changer from the 2001's and up. I'll let you know how it goes and post pics.

My man comes through with part numbers even, great job

Question on the amps though, my amp rack is located behind the back seat. I have already torn it down to get back their and run a line converter so I can run RCA's for an additional amp and sub. I hope those harnesses work for me. Would never use Crutchfield for purchases only advice and research.

crutchfield is great for research and their search feature is great. They also give you everything you'd need to install yourself but you're often paying more than you would somewhere else.

I have the Mach 460 6-DISC, and I'm on my second one under warranty. I got something in the mail from Ford (as someone stated earlier) not to play burnt CD's with sticker labels...only marker labels. Well, I haven't done that at all since I got my new CD player. Yet, I've still had problems every once in awhile with CDs not ejecting at all. Last Friday I tried to eject a normal CD and it got stuck and switched over to the radio. It was like that for days before I finally had to use another CD to just give it a little bump so that it would spit out.

Another thing I don't like about the 460 is the door flap. It doesn't light up or anything at night (or not very well) so you can't really see where to insert the CD.

My Mach CD player in my 96 just started acting up. When playing burned CD's, I get static that gets progressively worse. Oh well, in any case, I'm selling the stang soon so I have a Peripheral interface w/ four channel gain control and the Ford harness available. Everything you need to hook an aftermarket head-unit to your 460. E-mail me if your interested, I'm sure we can negotiate a reasonable deal since I don't need them. The manual says they are only good for 35W or lower / channel, but I used it on a 40 W x 4 head-unit w/ no problems? Any ideas on the static?
Ken

Edit: Oh, I forgot, I've also got a storage din that will replace the CD player. Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread, just offering. Thanks.

hm... if you are going to install a head unit you shouldn't use a hi-lo converter. the sound quality wont be as good, and aftermarket head units all have rcas outputs for subs that you can wire to the back anyway.

what's with the verts? I have a 96 Gt vert and the Mach 460 works fine whether its with cdrw's or regular cds, I do want to replace it eventually as the shifter is in the way of the cd player and i want to get a tray for the lower part. But unless it ****s out on me I'll keep it for now.
