Ok my car runs real strong up until 5000 rpms. After 5000 the cars acceleration decreases but the rpms shoot up a lot faster. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Sounds like a slipping clutch.

Standard or auto?

I would have to guess that it is either the clutch or torque convertor...

ya i wasnt even thinking about a slipping clutch. stick it in 5th at around 40-50 and floor it and see if the RPM's shoot up

If it's a slipping clutch you'll know in a couple days probably. Mine went from nominal to terrible in about 2 days. Got to the point where I could have the car sitting perfectly still, put it in second, let out the clutch and the engine wouldn't even notice....It would just idle...like a stupid idiot.

+1 get a t56 6 spd viper spec transmission and put a nice mccleod racing clutch in there.

On a more serious note, put it in 5th and stomp on it. RPMS will probably shoot up about as fast as if you were in neutral.
