So Blake, are you saying that basically you put it upside down on the inside in the closed position?

The antenna is pointing up, but is underneath the fender. There is enough room under there, behind the front wheel splash guard angled at about 15° toward the back of the car. It's kind of hard to describe since the area under the antenna is sort of a no-man's land that you never see. The antenna is all the way down, but is still 2.5-3 feet long.

No I get it, like a scared turtle popped back into the hole and then you sealed it up. That will be an interesting archiological find for some new owner some day, probably in the year 2054 though. So is it secured, or do a get a little rattle around some times? A very interesting idea though, I could never pull it off though. I have way too many deadzones where I am now, I had to add a signal booster to the line just to get the local station clearly.

Ahh....so true, but isn't that how ALL IPO stories start out? Someone, somewhere at sometime thought it was a good idea!

Not to worry Blake, it IS a better idea than mounting a big ol' satellite dish to your car's roof!

I wonder if it would work as well mounted horizontally in the trunk under the top edge of the quarter panel?

Heh, it was a good idea, but unorthodox you must admit. To the unknown person they will definatly scratch their head wondering what the reason was.

Let's put it this way Blake, I'm sure your previous owner had a damn good reason for stashing the cigarette box of, well, stash, in the heater box and he thought it was a good idea too, but it made you go hmmmmm? (of course momments later you forgot all about it and went running down the neighborhood ice cream truck, but that's a story for another day).

LMAO! Hey, I never said that wasn't a great stash spot. The part I questioned was not digging it back out once the coast was clear. Mmmmmmm, ice creammmm.

To answer the question you asked earlier: Yes it is secured. I have a super-industrial strength zip tie securing it to the bracket that attaches the fender to the cowl area (the one that is accessed behind the kick panel). It ain't going anywhere.
