Mega Ford Weekend at Mission Raceway June 24-26

Since the previous thread was wiped out i'll post this again.

There is an all-Ford powered race at Mission Raceway this coming June, Friday the 24th will be a test and tune along with muffled street legal drags in the evening. Saturday June 35th will be qualifying, time trials and a heads up True Street style race for licensed street cars. Sunday is eliminations for all classes including two special heads up classes.

--- A Pro class for the run-whatcha-brung cars meeting NHRA rules for safety and loosely following the FFW and PSCA Pro guidelines.

--- A 10.5 class limited to 10 1/2" tread slicks and 3000 lbs weight, anything else goes.

These will pay some pretty good purses and we expect competitors from all over western Canada. A semi formal swap meet and car show is part of it so bring your parts to sell and show cars.

Ummm errr, yeah the 35th... oddly enough it seems there is no June 35th this year so we decided to have qualifying on the 25th now.

The 10.5 class allows up to 11.5" tread width and 30" tire diameter, slicks, drag radials or whatever.

That's the same weekend as IHRA in edmonton. Thats too bad, maybe next time I guess.

We have the payout confirmed now.

The Pro 5.0 class will pay $2500 to win, the 10.5 class pays $1250 to win. The rules are pretty loose, anything goes in either class with the restriction in 10.5 being a maximum tire tread width of 11" as measured and 30" diameter and 3000 lbs minimum weight. These are easy to enforce, there are scales at the track and we can find a tape measure. 11" sounds fair, i know i posted 11.5" before, let me know if this spoils it or helps. The idea is to not allow those huge 10.5W x 33's in a small tire class. Anybody with those can run in Pro 5.0 class.

Again i must say, don't be intimidated by thoughts of faster cars, the Hare and the Tortoise story comes to mind here, it's not unheard of for a slower car to win rounds on redlights, breakage and DQ's. Pro should run 6's and 10.5 should run 8's, doesn't mean it'll take those ET's to beat the next guy though. There is also a street shootout for street tires, muffled and legal cars, this will be a heads up race too.

Entry fee is $125 for the weekend, if you are running in Saturday's street car shootout you can also run in brackets on Sunday. Classes include Quick 16 for cars with electronics and one for non-electronics, a Truck class, Nostalgia class (65 and older) and the regular ET classes.

I'd be interested in making a few runs just see what my car can do and I can only attend on sunday would I still have to pay that much for an entry fee, or is there a different fee just for one day.

There will be a test and tune during the day on the Friday as well as a Friday evening street legal event on the 34th.

You can run on Saturday or Sunday as a test and tune for $43 either day but this is not in eliminations so no prize money.

We are finalizing sponsors for all the classes and hope to pay pretty decent for the brackets as well.

Comes up quick, my car isn't near ready!!

The Test and Tune class will be called "Trophy" , you can specify at the entrance gate which class you want to run. Cars in the "4 Round Enduro" (i didn't choose the name! I still call it True Street. LOL) will need to be in the regular event classes.

Several of the featured cars ran at Mission today (June 10th) and there will be some pretty fast and very cool Fords there in two weeks. Some older cars that haven't been seen in ages too.

Hey where in Delta are you located TomP ? I am in Delta myself and I am also new to the 5L scene. I am hoping to make it to the all Ford powered race at Mission. It's gonna be alot of fun

Is there a printed version of the different classes somewhere? I'm interested in bracket racing during the event but I'm new to racing and the different classes are a little confusing to a newb. If I phone you it might be too much to take in at once.

I'm in Ladner.

The bracket rules are only safety rules, helmets for 13.99 and quicker or in all convertibles. No missing lug nuts, that sort of thing. On faster cars there are more rules, roll bars, scattershield and stuff for 11.49 and quicker. Cars that are nearly stock usually don't have any problems passing tech. The NHRA has a few of the rules listed, http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/ETQuickRef.html The numbers refer to rulebook page numbers.

The bracket class would be determined by your dial-in. Say the car runs mid 14's, you would run Sportsman class at a regular bracket race, choose a dial-in 14.00 and slower. Pro class is 13's and quicker. If you haven't raced the car before or made changes and aren't sure what it would run you can always change classes before eliminations begin on Sunday. The idea is to choose a number you think your car will run and try to be closer to it than the other drivers are to theirs.

I live in Ladner as well, just down the street from the landing.

I am very interested in running my stang down the 1/4 but I don't have a helmet. Where can I buy one and how much do they cost??

You don't need a helmet unless you're running 13.99 or better. If you're running faster than 13.99, you can get them at best buy, mopac, many motorcycle shops, etc... My RCI helmet costed something like $135 so it wasn't too bad.

Fat fingers, my calendar doesn't have that many days, though i wish i had ten extra days to get my car ready!

The Friday the twentyfourth (24th) test and tune must be prebooked by calling the track at 604-826-6315.

The Friday evening (24th again) street legal drags are open to any vehicles, must be muffled.
