D&D usually has really good prices on tremec stuff. Here's the link to their drivetrain page. Give them a call to get a price on the rebuild kit.

http://ddperformance.com/driveline.htm

As far as the rebuild itself, I've never done a 3550, but manual trannies usually aren't that bad. If you have some good mechanical skills you might consider doing it yourself. I'd definately ask around first though. If you have a shop do it, the labor will probably be between $200 and $350 (without the parts of course). TJ at Trickpro has done them if you want to ask him, or I can ask him tomorrow .

Erich: Yeah, I sure did. Thanks man, I appreciate it

I'm going to have mine rebuilt too.......and I asked Jake at Lamotta Performance but he said he'll have to look at it first to see what all it needs.....so I'm just going to have him do mine when the time comes...

well, ive never done a tranny rebuild myself...so i really wouldnt know what i was doing...but time isnt as important as money right now so regardless ill probably end up doing it myself anyway. it would be a hell of alot easier just to have jake do it...but i guess i should figure out how much it would be first. so much for an "indestructable transmission".

and baglock, if your already going down there tomorrow, yea i'd appreciate it if you asked him how much...if your not then dont take a special trip, ill just give them a call tomorrow or sometime. thanx for the help. im goin to go see if i can find diagram or teardown of a 3550, see exactly what im gettin myself into.

We have to die sometime, ya know.

droptop, I can barely even read your posts any more. It's a mix of I can't understand what you're talking about, and the fact that they are so depressing. Hope stuff get's better, though.

i don't know what i want to do, and even i did make up my mind i would change it like every 5 minutes (kinda like Erich and his deciding between the svo and new exaust) Except i'm a female so it's expected.

Because if i sold the Chevy i would have to get a new mustang, my parents don't want me getting anything older than '95, and my dad doesn't like mustangs so the expectations are higher. And most things in my price range are only v6's, that my dad and i can agree on. So i weighed out my options v8 or v6 .... or i can look at like Chevy or Ford, which leads me back to my inability to make up my mind, but i'm a girl, so it's all good.

EDIT: and the mustang i really want is an '89 GT hatchback, which my parents would never let me get

Stick with the Z28, if you go to a V6 stang you will be really dissapointed.
So your parents won't let you get anything older than a 95, if you are really set on mustangs maybe check out a 95 GT or Cobra. My friend picked up a 94 GT for $5k with 65k miles on it about a month ago. They may be slower than a fox but you do have that great 5.0 platform to build on.

Yeah, the problem? Where? Can't find deals like that around here easily.

I agree with you. I would probably still be looking for my second 5.0 right now if I had not recieved such a great deal. I bought my hatchback from one of the other techs at my work. We are good friends and he said he was thinking about selling and he knew i would take good care of it. So he said he needed to get $2k for the car, right then and there I told him I would buy it. I mean you can't find a decent 5.0 around here for anything less than $3k.
My friend bought his GT from one of the techs over at his dealership, so I would say it pays to have friends with mustangs.

I know a certain GTS that would disagree with that statement

In reality how much does a GTS weigh compared to a SN95 GT. The GTs have to weigh at least 3400 pounds. A notchback weighs just a little over 3000 pounds, and the hatchback about a 100 more than that. My friends 94 GT 5 speed is a dog even with 3.73s, flow cat-back, and underdrive pulleys. My 5 speed hatchback only has 3.55s and a off-road H-pipe and I could easily destroy his car.
Even with that GTS option I don't see a SN95 being faster than a LX notch or LX hatch.

His car is as fast as mine, and it's nearly stock. Of course, I'm not that good of a driver, but still, he has caught up with me when I'm at WOT.

Thanks Erich. And the car is 3260 lbs. I won't say whether or not that's with me or how much fuel it had .
