Rebuild it I will, but not today. The mustang and engine shops said a rebuild is not absolutely necessary. I would like to get a few more miles out of this engine while I save for the rebuild and other stuff.

For now I'll consult my mustang book collection on how to check bearings and rods. If it can’t be saved then that’s ok.

See the local craigs list, and rent a hoist for a weekend.....There are running driving cars with 5.0's, or 302's every day for cheap....

before i would run the engine again, i would grab the rods and see how loose they are. if you can move them, rebuild the engine dont mess around.

The rods are firm. I also checked proper valve movement by manually cranking the engine. All 16 moved normally. I added a little mystery oil to the valves and cylinder via the spark plug hole. So far so good.
