this is my first opportunity to post a discussion of 2008 or 2009 mustang gt powertrain directions...
i was talking to Al Papito and a few of his fellow "guys that know" concerning future directions of motors for this car.

the word is, that ford is considering using the lincoln LS 3.9l v8 as the standard GT motor. according to Al, it's a POS motor. fuel economy seems to be driving things. i wonder if the MOD motor is going the way of the dinosaur altogether? no word on that, but a small 4v v8 is not good news.

if ford goes smaller than the current 4.6 that so many already complain about, they would be shooting themselves in the foot. now if that motor was optional, and not in a GT, but something similar to an LX, then they may have something, depending on power output. i am not familiar with that motor at all.

all the rumors floating around out there about more displacement and added power, i cant believe they would go conservative on us.

doesnt the LS engine require premium fuel? i thought that was one of the reasons that tylers65 sold his LS.

i just wanted to throw it out. sma;; v8 for GT...
larger for specialty stangs. i certainly hope not.

That would never happen. The Lincoln motor costs more than the 3v, and it's taking a step backwards in power.

I will burn my mustang in effigy if they introduce the 2009 GT with a 3.9L under the hood. every other company is putting "muscle" back into muscle car, all ford cares about is its stupid fuel economy ratings...

but ford has few cars that are over 22mpg, and the EPA restrictions are taking their toll. It's either change the power plant in a well selling car or design a whole new car thats way effcient like 33mpg to higher their average. I can see Ford doing this....but common..even the V6 is bigger than that. I thought the 281 was small but a 3.9? Maybe the 3.9 will be standard GT then there will be many other modles to choose from like a Boss 302 and a mach 1 w/ a 3-4V 4.6 V8

i guess nobody really knows, but ford has never been above killing a powertrain if they feel it is obsolete. i have a love/hate relationship with 3v and i hope it continues. at some point they need a small V8 for mileage. maybe a tweaked 3.9l but a small one never the less. remember the 4.2l from 1980.

mismatched ports 115hp/245 lb-ft. 255 cu.in. of badd-ass power. they have done it before. it's about sales to 295 million not the few performance enthusiasts.

however... the camaro and challenger will kill them. personally, i wouldn't mind a 280ish hp v8 stang with 30mpg highway for a commuter. i drive 75 miles one way to work. with 20mpg i get now that's a good alternative. no need to mod it because a 3.9l is worthless.

it was the only place i have heard that said. everything else on the net points toward something to compete with 425hp 6.1l hemi and 425hp 6.0l LS-X.

ford is not above imploding.

Hmmm....scary thought. Maybe we will see the return of the 4-banger in a mustang! I can't imagine they would really go with that small 8. I'm sure Ford isn't as concerned about their mustangs as we are, but surely they see how valuable this car is to their line-up.

all ford has to do is the aussie thing. a boss 290 federalized. same as GTO.

i swear i heard the same rumors about 3-4 years ago about the 05+ mustang. Hope its not true but knowing ford lately, it probably is.

Been there, done that.

I have no urge to buy a current Mustang, not even the Shelby. But if the Challenger look as good as the concept, I'll be in line.
