150 dry shot in a 85 stock stang with 200,000 plus miles..........BOOM!!!!!!!

I have the MAC UDs as well. No issues charging because I have the stocker on there. And, the performance gain at the track is undeniable. I live in the dry northwest and the powder coating on the pulleys is like the day I bought them. On another note I just replace the 100k mile stock alternator with an Autolite alternator. The pulley on that thing was huge. Way bigger in diameter than the MAC UD pulley. It caused charging issues at idle as well. I put the stocker on the new alternator. Now no idle issues.

65mph is just over 2200RPM. I guess it is preference but I like it. Power in every gear. My Infinite truck is revving at the same as that and my B'mer is higher than the stang.

I regret my Mac CAI - that thing is a complete piece of junk. It's a pain to change and clean... I wish I got something else.
I also regret getting my chrome rims.
I wish I would have waited to get authentic 18" saleens instead of my 17" reps. Don't get me wrong... I love my rims, but I often get the itch to swap them up for some sweet 18" authentics.

Well I have waited for someone else to say this, but no one has!

Isn't that the funny of Hot Rodding? To me researching parts, buy parts, and installing parts as much fun if not more fun, then driving the car sometimes. I understand that most people are telling their bad experiences from bad parts or bad companies, and we have all had them, but that is part of the deal, and part of the fun because now each and everyone on here is now more educated and informed then they were when they started their project.

I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way. I'm not saying this thread is worthless or anything, because it is actually very informative, I am just saying, thats this is what makes the hobby great, at least to me, because I love modding, changing, improving, even if it take a couple steps to get there. Anyone else feel the same?

+1 some times you can only use so much $$$$ annd hell if your car breaks down and you need a quick fix i dont mind using a cheap part... but no matter what we will always be changing and learning form the experience that is auto...

plan
research
and then
modify that first plan based upon the research you found
before laying down the cash

HOWEVER

All your plans and research can't be 100% perfect

I will say this for certain ... right here ... right now

I had nothing like this forum
and
all the great data it contains

from those who have successfully modded their Stang when I was a kid and just getting started in this hobby of ours.

If I did ... IMHO, it sure would have helped me make less mistakes and save money

All I had was
my other gear head buds who didn't have a clue either

they have all caused me more headache, frustration, and money than they are worth.

and Im never satisfied with the performance, or the way I feel the car is responding to them. I wish I had a ****ton of money so I could have just paid some guy to do it all correctly.

that's because you got 3:55s put in instead of 4:10s or even 3:73s...

i'm tellin you, your whole mindset would have changed completely had you gone with a higher gear.

I think my pulleys cause problems too, at idle the a/c does not work very well, and the lights dim..

I dont mind it though my car is definitely not for comfort.

Most of my mods have been researched here with a great deal of thought and in keeping with my goals. So far, I can't complain about any of them and in fact the stang has been better off for all of them.

What I do regret is some of the replacement parts I've bought: remanufactured starter, remanufactured alternator, and remanufactured water pump. All the remanufactured stuff I bought ended up going bad in a very short amount of time. Now that I only put new replacement parts on, I've only replaced stuff once and they last like they're supposed to.

I think this is a great thread, and a very useful tool once it grow some more for some of the newer members. As for my pullies, which are MARCH, they've been on almost a few years and look just like the day I bought them...and don't attribute any major charging problems to them. I'd do them again.

I'm actually pretty happy with the mods done to my car...except for the ported GT intake manifold...

the money I payed for that, I could have bought a Cobra Manifold and had it ported...

it's pretty and all, it's gotten alot of attention at car shows and such because it's well done, and there's even some noticeable power increases in the upper rpm's, but I could have powdercoated a Cobra Intake the exact same way....meh

I also regret not angle cutting my tailpipes down a bit, but that doesn't reaaaally matter anymore

1. Mac exhaust, rusted to **** and snaped every bolt while tring to fix. I love the prochamber though..

2. Not going with an intercooled turbo or blower system... now i get to try and peice one from a fox body vortec into my paxton novi 2000... ATI was more expensive... but I should have gone with it..

3. Doing and mod that was cheap because I didn't want to wait and save. Should have done big power mods first Ex, 347 or blower with stock everything else... after gears, intakes, TB, MAF, exhaust, pullys.. you spend the same as the big power makers.

4. Having anyone but me work on the car. Everytime someone else touches it there are problems, take you time learn the stuff for yourself and shut up and do it.

5. Most inportant rule, don't cheap out... do it once... do it right!
